Hello this is probably a dumb question but how do you get the codes to show? The service manual says to hold the sel button for 2 seconds but that’s just to change settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A code would be displayed on the meter unit when you turn the ignition key on, wouldn't it? I don't think the ECU stores a history of previous codes after they have been cleared if that's what you're looking for. Hub should know the answer to this.

Ok thanks. Yeah it’s not showing any codes but I know something is wrong with it, just all of a sudden it’s starting to bog down really bad and it seems like it’s only after it’s hot. I’ve made no changes to the bike and it’s stock except slip ons. Almost seems like a fuel pump but don’t want to just start throwing parts on it without a code or some indication of the problem. It has done this the past 3 rides and only after its hot. It did set for a month without being started because I was just too busy but I don’t think that’s long enough for the gas to gunk up.

Well I removed gas tank pulled out the fuel pump and sure enough the pre filter was completely clogged! I don’t know how it even ran so I cleaned it as much as possible until I can order a new one and it runs like new now, just unbelievable how much gunk was on that filter!

It's been months since I rode the 14. Riding the ST1100 almost everyday instead. Now I'm going to check the filter out. Forces me to drain the gas, dry it out, and check it out.
What are we talking, rust? The main filter is so fine, I tried to clean one and it was red powder it was so fine. I'd be there forever getting what I could out and doubt it would run anyway.

There was no rust just a black goo looking stuff, I really wish I would have thought to take a picture, I was just so excited that I knew I just found the problem I didn’t even think about that. I have always used high octane since the bike was new and added the ethanol enzyme treatment to every tank so maybe that stuff doesn’t work. I know I’m going to try and use non ethanol gas from now on.

There's a pretty good You Tube video by 2wheelforfun that shows the whole process of changing the filter.
It also shows the Kawasaki filter number, 49019-0013.
I changed the filter in my 2012 ZX14R and it too was black and clogged.

on a recent road trip, filled up the fuel tank at a petrol station in the highlands, before starting a long downhill trek... when i got to the bottom, the engine was struggling whenever i twisted the throttle, and just died when stopped and idling...
waited for a while, tried to re-start and all went well, as if nothing had ever happened, but the issue would repeat after every long downhill ride and when the tank was less than half full... checked the fuel tank, found a partially clogged fuel pump filter, and petrol mixed with a fine black dust
i reckon the dirt came from that petrol station in the highlands, probably a filthy storage tank?

The FSM for early 14R/ZZR1400 states that the filter isn't replaceable and a blocked filter necessitates pump replacement! Yeah, right! It looks like the pump was changed for 2016-on bikes. I've no fuelling issues at the moment on my 2012 but I'm thinking about checking the filter after reading this thread. I'm guessing (hoping) the filter will be cleanable/changeable with maybe a bit of pump dismantling? Any ideas?

Thanks for that! A very useful and £££ saving video. The price of a new pump assembly here in the UK is £525!! From 2016> the pump has a different part number but is EXACTLY the same price. The parts diagram for the later models shows an exploded diagram of what appears to be the same pump with a separate "filter kit" available for £64 which consists of filter and new seals/grommets. The same website lists the filter on it's own (not for the ZZR) for under £20 so I'll go with that.
