Another Mad Breakfast Loop
05/30/17 7:43 AM

Well, I FINALLY got out for my first Maddevill Breakfast Loop of the season. Only had old friends George,(RC51) and Albert, ( brand new FZ09) so I could ride the pace I like. First up through the fog to Alice's Restaurant for coffee and eggs....LOTS of coffee. We were there by 8:30. Left Alices and went down Hwy 84 towards La Honda. No cars and one perfect corner after another. Brilliant! A left onto Pescadero Rd where we zipped down more tight switchbacks to the coast. By now it was a high grey overcast but clearing. So south on famous Hwy 1 along the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean to Davenport. Stopped for a snack and potty break at the Whalewatcher Café. Now the sun was out sprakling on a blue ocean, light breeze and warm. Perfect.
Up one of my favorite roads, Pine Flat where I chased Albert on the FZ09. He was booking it even though he was still breaking in the motor. Felt real good to lean the ZX into the fast switchbacks as we climbed the hill through the redwood trees. Onto Boulder Creek for a gas stop. Then up another of my favorites Hwy 9 where again we encountered no traffic. Zoomed past a KTM 1290 Superduke, who really should have kicked all our asses. Back up to skyline and north to Alice's again. Followed by an extended bullshit session with the dozens of other bikers up there. Met a couple of ZX forum members, mostly lurkers. I hope they pop on here.
So, an absolutely outstanding morning. I still love my ZX. The big girl just does everything I like SO well...
About the FZ-09. The motor is brilliant. Instant power with tons of torque. Riding position is like a big dirt bike but I found the seat too low for my tastes. Rear shock very soft and boingy combined with very harsh forks hamper the handling but Albert is going to do some upgrades there. But a really fun bike.

That's all for now.

I know. My phone camera doesn't work. I really need to get a little point and shoot. I suck....
But just imagine in your heads nothing but smooth sweepers combined with sharper tight turns under tall redwoods with sunlight filtering through.... you'll get the idea.

Yeah, that's my shorter Breakfast Loop, around 130 miles. The longer one is about 225. Anyone who is coming through the area I'd be more than happy to take you along on our loop. As long as we get up there early it's car and cop free.

Cool ride route. Would be great fun, riding along the ocean. Here in FL the oceanside highway is so developed that there are only a few short stretches left with no houses or businesses.

Rode my bud's FZ09 once. He's very happy with his bike. I didn't really care for it. It's basically the opposite of a ZX14. The ZX is long, low, smooth and freight train power. The FZ09 is short, high, skittish and snatchy. It's definitely dirt bike like, which on the street is not for me
