My bike history
09/01/13 7:45 AM

I just thought I'd put up a few pics of my other rides.

I was a latecomer to motorcycling, having wanted one for as long as I can remember, but never having the resources to own one. So, after much debate with my then fiancé, at the ripe old age of 32, I got my first bike, a new 2005 Suzuki SV650:

The mods:
Leo Vince slip-on
Suburban Machinery Bars
Seat Cowl
Motosliders
Tankslapper tank film

I put 9000 miles on that SV and loved every minute of it. It is the only bike I regret selling to this day. I sold it to a college kid who had a rashed up Ninja 250. I let him test ride the SV (with his cash in my hand) as I followed him on my next bike (see below); I could tell that he wasn't a good rider at all and downright scared on a motorcycle. He bought my bike, hit a raccoon on the ride home and wrecked, fixed the bike and sold it, never to ride again.

As all of that went down, I already had my next bike in the garage, a 2005 ZX-10R:

The mods:
Champs Sliders (wish he made them for the 14; awesome sliders)
Clear Alternatives Integrated Tail Light

Man, what a wicked upgrade from my SV that was! But, it wasn't meant to be. I bought the bike from a dealer. It had 4500 miles on the odometer but had never been titled. The dealer stated that it was a Kawasaki demo bike. I bought it as-is, with no warranty.

I was actually at the dealer to try to get a new GSXR-750, but they didn't have one.

I got the 10R home, to discover a puddle of coolant under it in my garage. Tracking down the leak, I found what looked like a crack in the engine block, with coolant seeping out. I was pissed.

I had someone look at it, who said that it looked like a casting flaw, not a crack.

Long story short, neither the dealer nor Kawasaki would help with the cost of the repairs. "As-is," they kept saying. The dealer tried a half-assed JB Weld job on the leak that didn't take. At that point, I wanted out from under the bike (only had the 2005 for about 3-4 months) and traded it in on this, a new 2006 ZX-10R:

As disgusted as I was with the response I got from the dealer and Kawasaki, the 2006 was a leftover (2007s were on the floor) and I got a great price on it.

The mods:
Throttlemeister
Champ's Siders
Stomp Grip
A&R Race Baffles

14,000 miles and 3 years later, I had a huge itch for a dual sport bike. I sold the 10R and got one of the first Husqvarna TE630s off of the assembly line (VIN # 15):

At the dealer:

Now, lots of mods and dirt later:

The 630 is a rare bird. Not many were made. I have no plans to sell it. I was putting far too many commuter miles on it, and it requires a lot of maintenance compared to a street bike. So, that's where the 14R came into the picture:

The mods:
Stomp Grip

When I sold the 2006 10R, I thought for sure I was done with street bikes. I guess not!

It was a sweet bike, but I didn't want to have anything to do with that leaking block.
