2018 ZX-14R
09/21/17 4:49 PM

Just got an e-mail from Ma Kawasaki with the 2018 lineup. Maybe there's some minor differences on the ZX-14R but if so, I didn't notice them right off...

Same with the 2018 C-14 (Fat Ninja...).

Didn't look at the rest of the lineup though so there might be some new models or big changes elsewhere...

Current Rides: 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 GT; 2020 Triumph Speed Triple S; 2018 BMW K1600 Grand America; 2016 Kawasaki ZX-14R SE, 2015 Kawasaki C-14 Concours, 2014 Triumph Rocket 3 Roadster, 2014 Rocket 3 Touring, 2012 Harley-Davidson Fat Bob, 2011 Rocket 3 Roadster, 2009 Rocket 3 Standard, 1984 Honda V-65 Sabre

I saw the email--looks as if the SE is the only 14R?
Like the color scheme, though...did not seem to be any other changes.

I love how they are selling enough H2's to stay in production. Afraid that means the current 14R is the last of it's kind. If Suzuki ever gets off their stupid asses, Kawi will counter with a better H2.

"Afraid that means the current 14R is the last of it's kind"...a supercharged 14 is VERY doable for Kawasaki.Like the rest of their models...next generations have always been better. They're still selling lots of 14R's.When they see that declining...it's pretty much a done deal they'll have a killer comin up;)Actually, they probably already HAVE a new 14 being designed.Love the new paint schemes...but that won't keep em going forever.

I gotta agree with Grn14, as long as the current model is selling and there's no competition to encourage change I doubt we'll see much changes in the 14, simply stated: why change? The benefits most likely wouldn't outweigh the costs associated with the model change.

As trivial as it sounds... I'm pretty happy to see that the dash is the same, I don't like the digital speedo and REALLY don't like digital tachs. Another kudos for Kawasaki and much of the motorcycle industry is their ability to continuously add new technology and improved performance without adjusting the bottom line.

Although I haven't followed the pricing of the recent models very closely this seems to be the same MSRP as the previous few years but with upgraded (presumably) brake calipers and stainless steel brake lines (woohoo).

I also got that email notification and was excited to look at the new bike lineup, hoping the 14 would be finally revised . But, while I do like that red gray and black color pattern, the bike is not yet revised, so I will pass on trading, for at least another year

Or less outside to go to another model before they do finally revise the 14

Saw this picture in Brock's Facebook page. In my opinion, this is just one ugly color combination.

GOOD gAWD! That makes that hypothetical busa look awfully good. What the hell!? They must be trying to encourage people to buy out the old stock.

Like any iterations of the zx14R color schemes...I think it probably looks a lot better 'live'...I do like though.

I think that's the best color pattern and color combination they've come up with yet, aside from the classic Kawasaki green, obviously

But to each his own

And, I do know my Brock's exhaust will still fit if I did decide to trade!!!

I'm actually surprised Rook doesn't liek this, considering his bike. Just doesn't make sense, there's actually some sense on contrast.

Maybe Kawasaki made a mistake a model not designed for somoene 60. (no offense intended really...just say'n).

hralf! I just puked a little. Kawi usually gets it right first year and then fucks it up every year after. The only one I liked slightly after my flamey 12 SE was my buddy's '13 gloss black with green strakes...and it still needed some de-stickering.

The grey one...I'd like to see some teeth(with orange/red gums) painted right where the upper concave shape starts, and just below that where it flattens back out on the side panel. It's a perfect spot for that. How it smooths back to that point. And teeth coming all the way around that under area in the cowl.Separated by the nose.

I don't have a problem with throwing a few different colors together. What I don't like is that the black and grey seem disjointed. There does not seem to be a reason for the black or the grey. The two colors are separated by the seams in the fairings by the fuel tank and that calls to mind a black bike that was crashed and then somebody grabbed some used fairings that were the wrong color to replace the damaged ones. They could have done a much better job integrating the black into the grey so the two seemed parts of a whole rather than two parts that weren't intended to go together. What they did with the black/grey upper fairing is effective. They should have used something along those lines where the tank fairing meets the side. The black stripe design on the side was a step in the right direction. It would be much worse without that. The "mouth" shape along the top presents quite a challenge for 2D design in that area. I always thought that mouth was an unnecessary gimmick but it doesn't conflict with single color schemes. I think there needs to be solid black from the tank fairing forward and onto the side fairing so it integrates with the grey.

I like the idea of the conservative color choice and using some edgy designs to make it work but Kaw has never done two colors of paint on one panel. Probably too expensive. It would have to be stickers. I think a black/grey checkered flag design over the whole thing would look great. The lighter squares would be very blackish near the fuel tank and gradate to solid grey on the bottom and tip of the tail. That would be way above and beyond what Kaw would do for a paint scheme.

I respect that all are entitled to their opinion and some will like the new colouring and some will not.
Me?
I reckon the person who came up with that colour scheme should be painted in grey tar with black and red feathers, expelled from the design industry immediately and never permitted to return!
Even Hub could come up with something better than that and he takes all his fairings off!
Such an uninspiringly ugly new outfit for easily the best bike I have ever ridden...

I also respect other opinions but that looks like a Ninja 300 scheme, not something to slap over the finest engine in
motorcycling.
