Power Commander V
04/26/23 7:22 PM

Hello all. I purchased a 2007 ZX14 with 3700 miles on it. It came with a Muzzy full exhaust front to back and a K&N air filter on it. I am aware of the K&N controversy, not my first choice but it was already installed. Believe me the first thing I did was replace tires, oil etc. As I was exploring this bikes under carriage so to speak, I noticed it has a Power Commander 5 installed. No map at all. So I figured I'd explore what maps PCV had to offer. Nothing for an '07 but it had a map for '08. My bike must be too old I'm guessing. My question? Is there a difference in the ECU, Injection system or engine between the 07' and 08'? Another question is I'm told this is a California bike. What steps would I have to take to get rid of Cali's ridiculous emissions regulations choking this injection systems performance and would that over ride even having a PCV to begin with? New to the forum and my first ZX14. Hooked! What a machine! I've been checking out a 2023 (sold) at my local dealership. (seems they cant get anymore?) But I do love this '07. Colorado canyons to corn field straits, unmatched with anything I've owned....ever.

Welcome.

You are out of luck then map wise. Two different FPM sizes between years.

Microns like to score cylinder walls. Cut the 4 plastic melted tabs off the screen's corner's OEM air element. Smoother feel to it, IMO.

Find a dyno shop to tune it right. It might blow out the OEM tensioner being dyno'd. Did mine. Mods chasing is just that. One thing after another until it runs like shit, blows up, or eats parts, etc.

If the bike runs without a stumble, but smooth transition up the rpm range, then all is well, leave it alone. Same goes for PAIR. If anything it's not like the old carbs days with hoses all over. PAIR is an after fire, meaning, it does not effect the pre; pre being the fire stroke. This is FI and not carb sneezing hose routing monsters. Those days are over.

Map Cali, map 48 state are different. It's more emissions from CARB. Bike is set to race track spec, or lean is mean. Something like 14.2 AFR. PAIR will read 16.5 AFR.

Don't remember if 2nd year cleaned up the subthrottle speed? If it did, leave the subs alone. Kills the smoothness and a few HP I hear.

Pull the seat. Count 3 lines coming out at the back of the tank. 3 is Cali, 2 hose are the 48 state. The tank setup is emissions also. As with PAIR it does not affect performance. Latest cars have more HP then ever and they are full of emissions. It's not what you think needing to close it up, rip it out, etc.

FI is open loop up until 2015. It's the later models that go flash to override the 02's closed loop system.
