Whoa Nelly!

After over 65 k miles, I am going to put steel brake lines on my 06. Got some Red Venhill lines coming with black banjo bolts. If that ain't good enough then it's EBC HH pads. If that doesn't do the trick then I'm installing a Brembo master from a 1098 on there. Woot.

I find the Nissin calipers and Nissin Master are pretty good and
provide plenty of stopping power.

I have same combo on the 14 and my zx10 track bike.

As far as pads, personally I wouldn't put EBC anything on my bike.

Vesrah RJL pads or Carbone Lorraine C60's pads are good choices. Even the OEM pads
are a really good pad. Going to harder sintered
pads is really only going to help if you are experiencing brake fade from
over heating or else they will just eat your rotors and squeak a lot because
you won't be getting enough heat in them.

But......

Are you trying for more stopping power or a different feel for the brakes?

Feel can range from more instant on, hard like a wood block or softer slower
on, good for better trail braking.

Stopping power and feel can be 2 different things.

There's actually a mathematical formula that gives you a final braking
ratio that can be used to make adjustments for more or less braking power.

The formula works off of rim size, rotor size, caliper piston size, master
bore size and brake lever pivot point.

To increase braking power you would need to change one of those, easiest would
be to upgrade rotors to over sized rotors, Stock I believe is 310mm rotors, you
could go to like 330mm rotors using same calipers with spacers.

To change feel you would could change master bore size. Smaller bore for more
instant on hard feeling or larger bore for softer more feel braking.

I think the stock Nissin is like 5/8" bore. The size is stamped on the master
cylinder.

If you just swap to the Brembo master from another bike and it has the same bore size it won't
make a difference unless maybe pivot is different.

Best to look at the Brembo RCS masters available in 2 different bore sizes 16mm (.62")
and 19mm (.74") and they have pivot points of 16,18 and 20mm

I guess the point being....

1.Are your brakes not strong enough to stop the bike?
2.Are you getting brake fade from over heating the brakes?
3.Do you want to change the feel of the brakes?

Of coarse some over sized full floating Iron rotors, ceramic pads and true Brembo
monoblock calipers would be nice too!

Thanks for the info on pads. I used to race with EBC HH and loved them but maybe I'll try something else. Basically I've been unhappy about my front brakes since I rode my friend's ZX14 that had a Brembo master and calipers along with steel lines. One finger braking. Mine is more like a strong pull with at least 2 fingers. The final straw was when I tried my friend's SV650 and almost went over the bars braking. So I figure with all the miles on the stock lines I'd start there.

I rode my friend's ZX14 that had a Brembo master and calipers along with steel lines. One finger braking.

I don't think SS lines and HH pads are going to make a difference. I have that on mine and also 320 mm rotors. No different than stock except the rotors are very noisy when I brake hard. Probably because they are so thin. I guess I'd say I can one finger mine off I want. I can brake hard at speed and lock the front without using half the throw.

I hear the more recent stock brakes on many sport bikes are a lot stronger than the 14's. Brakes was one thing our bike was known for but times have changed. I don't feel I need any more brakes for my riding but I'll take them when I can afford a new setup. Actually, I'm planning more on bling for my brakes as long as the new ones work at least as good as the OEMs. I'm going with Beringer calipers and MC. Drops a little weight too.

I put EBC HH pads on my G1 and there was no difference in the stopping power. The stockers also said HH on the back. What I did notice was the metal frame on the EBC pads was a bit smaller than stock and clicked and rattled when applied because the smaller size allowed then to move a bit in the caliper and click/clack. Drove me nuts and I put the used stock Kawi pads back on just to get rid of the rattle and clicking.

Your bike has served you well, go for the full Brembo calipers, rotors levers and all - its only $$$

I installed my HH pads about 6 years ago so maybe they changed the design of the backing plate. My HHs were quieter than stock. No squeal at low speed.

I had the same experience as Rook, the ONLY pads I could find at the local shops were EBC HH pads which were bloody expensive for brake pads. Haven't noticed a difference in stopping power but that's also probably because I haven't ever needed to push the brakes to their limit... The lack of low speed squealing is nice :)
