INST FUEL CONSUMPTION
04/24/11 1:56 AM

I have just bought an 07 zx14 very nice ride....just got back from the first decent ride to find very poor
fuel economy....average fuel consumption 16L/100km and with 229km round trip had 39km dist to empty and the
fuel guage was on the e just above the digital bowser.....is this normal or abnormal...it was a very very
average ride with no big rpm and average of 100-110km/h on the hwy....any ideas ?? I thought the fuel range on
these things was meant to be very good in the vic of 300 plus ???

I didnt bother to calculate what your gas mileage means in mpg/mph, but if Im cruising, Im usually around mid/upper 30s mpg. If I fill my tank, and just out cruising, my miles until empty is usually a little bit over 200.

With my 08, with secondary butterflies still in, I go around 250 miles on a tank when I'm riding with my MC. I can bring that number way down without trying hard, though, if there are a lot of stops and slow sections of the ride.

I have routinely done a 200 mile trip on my 08. I have never tried going the whole distance on one tank (because I know what it is like to walk a motorcycle to a gas station). It seems to me that I could get the whole way there on a tank. If I start off at a normal fill up to the splash guard and not above, I will be at 3 bars of fuel (half tank) at 100 miles. That's when I fill up.

When I used to be curious about fuel economy, I caculated a few times and it was below 35 mpg. The Ave mileage is optimistic.

I do about 150 miles on a tank. Like Rook, I have pushed more than one bike into the gas station rather than ride it in. Would say I usually have at least half a gallon when I do fuel. Considering how big of an engine, weight of the bike, and the way most of us rides, I honestly do not expect this to be a fuel sipper. Can keep it from being a guzzler, but still decent return for the fuel used. What else can you cruise at triple digits, and get fuel mileage in the 30s?

get 15.5 to 16 klm to the liter , fill around 260 to 280 klm will do 320 when going long distances. it just pulls the plug out when you fang it hard.

Would of been great to have another 3 liters.

Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy the ride.

that's funny. one of the first times I had my bike out I went on a leisurely cruise with my Harley friend, we did 50mph most of the time and I was shocked at how little gas I had used. That and I was accelerating a lot slower.lol

Quite true, Edge, when you ride with tuna boats, you tend to sink into a cruising mode. I do, anyway. I keep my display in RANGE mode usually, and I can see the range climb as we settle into a 60mph pace through the countryside.

I know what you mean about accelerating. I had to learn to brake for curves I would normally late-apex because if I rolled through I'd run up on the slow arse in front of me.

Don't get me wrong, I love going on rides with them, they are a lot of fun, but OMG are they slow.
