How to test for a leak on the headers
01/16/15 10:56 AM

Anybody know an easy way to test/confirm if the headers are leaking where they bolt onto the motor? (Besides feeling it blowing air out)
Changed coolant and whilst bleeding the air bubbles I put my hand behind the radiator and not sure if I'm feeling air movement so want to look at confirming it.

If there is any kind of substantial leak you should be able to hear the snap sound as the air is pushed out the flange. Sometimes sounds like a valve tick. Often it starts when the motor is cold and then goes away as it warms up and the flanges seal.

I'd get me a scripto brand name type bbq lighter. I run the tip around the pipe, where I want the flame to blow out. Buddaboombuddabing.

Thanks guys.
I didn't hear anything just thought I felt something. I tried some tissue strips on a stick that I put in front of the header pipe and the ngoni, but hot air also moves around and gave me the impression there was air movement.
Tried the bbq lighter (clever trick Hub) and the flame stood still so I assume all is cool by the pool with no air leak.
Have a great week end. Sun is shining so it's riding weather all week end long

You might be feeling the air shaking. Sometimes I feel my pants leg move when I stand next to the bike with the ngine running. I can't feel any wind blowing on my hand though.
