Cool Trooper
07/01/14 4:07 PM

Riding today and crested a hill on a 2 way non divided back road, I wasn't sure of my speed but I knew it was well above 55mph....mr Georgia State patrol is coming towards me...as soon as we see each other his lights turn on...he has to do a 3 point turn to get turned around....I slow and because there's no where to run decide to go ahead and pull over.

He pulls up behind me and as he approaches I take my gloves and helmet off...

State Trooper: clocked you at 98 in a 55

Me: yea sorry about that...out here just kinda cruising around...but at least I didn't try to run (big smile)

Trooper: I thought you might was kinda of surprised you pulled over, can I see your license and insurance

Me: handing him license....yea not in to running from you guys, it's just a speeding ticket right?

Trooper: yea you're right...hands me my license back, pats me on the back and says, slow it down and ride safe

Gets in his car and is gone.....

I was pleasantly surprised....smiled the rest of the ride home..guess they aren't all too bad...

Yup...pulling over is the BEST way to avoid a ticket. Most of em KNOW the bike can EASILY pull away and lose em...they mostly don't want to get into a high speed chase...maybe ruin their day;)Good for you!

Lucky that time. Read the warning signs. I got a few and then one day my luck ran out. It's a part of the game we play. All you can do is try to minimize the chance of being seen. Sounds like you were doing that. You still need to rely on luck to some degree or you start riding like a dog with his tail between his legs.

Please send more of these gems to Ontario. They are not so "open minded" here.

I got my first "Real" sportbike back in 83...a 1983 GS550ES. One day I was weaving in and out of traffic on the Dan Ryan expressway in Chicago going 90-100 or so. A trooper pulls in behind me with his lights flashing and I pull off on the next exit. After I got stopped I turn off the bike and reach for my wallet and a voice comes from a loud speaker and says "Stay off the expressway %$#$@##$ " and he squeals his tires and shoots from behind me and gets back on. Another time a Chicago cop gave me a ticket for popping a wheelie. When it was my turn before the judge he asked " How far did you ride it ? " and before I can answer the cop lies and says 3 or 4 blocks when in reality it was 15-20 feet. The judge says I ride too. Give me 25 dollars case dismissed ! Really miss that bike and that era.

Sorry to hash up an old thread but I love these stories. This was maybe 3 yrs ago. Was a beautiful fall Monday and I had the day off. I had her around mid 100's a few times. I didn't notice a trooper in an suv a bit behind me before I took off on the first 100 plus run. I hadn't done anything to this point to warrant him following me. He didn't have a light bar on top. A bit later I slow down as I'm getting in some heavier traffic and I see a silver suv with a hwy patrol decal on the door come up along side waving me over. At this point he's got me so I pull over. Here he comes with his hand on his gun. Older patrolman maybe in his 50's. First thing he says is, "you in a hurry?" I said, "No sir I'm just out having fun. I played the game and you got me." The he says " what is that?! believe it or not that thing (his truck) will do triple digits but you pulled away from me like......" Then at some point he said "that's a 1400?" I said well 1300 something. The I got the standard "I'm glad you didn't run" He came back with a ticket for 90 in a 70. He said "thats the best I can do for ya" "slow down, deer are bad this time of year" I think it was around $230 plus points. I considered that a good deal. I think he could've impounded the bike and arrested me if he wanted to.

My last stop was for doing 90 in a 55. I was just sailing along. 90 really isn't that fast for a straight stretch with no traffic. He let me go with a ticket for failure to produce proof of insurance. The card had gotten wet and was illegible. It was a $10 ticket no points. Near the same place I was doing 130 and accelerating when I saw a car way ahead. I rolled off and grabbed the brake and just as we passed going opposite directions, I saw it was a cop. I was doing 100. The cop just kept going like nothing happened.

Similar deal here.Last year passed a Trooper doing 198.Hey,too late to do anything really,so i pulled over to the shoulder and slowed to about 15 waiting for him to show up.He didn't.Got lucky that day.No traffic on that couple mile straightaway.I've now cashed in my get outta jail free card.I won't be doing that again lol.

Kruz had a DNR officer let him off with a warning yesterday. He figures the cop had no radar since his radar detector never made a peep. The cop caught up to him when Kruz was fueling at a gas station. He said he was chase him for 6 miles at 95 mph and loosing ground rapidly. Kruz estimates he was doing about 114 mph on average. The cop made a phone call and came back and gave Kruz a warning. The radar detector only works if they are using radar but this goes to show, they will still chase you and they might just write you a ticket without radar evidence. Kruz's traffic lawyer has beaten a lot worse than that for him. I can't believe what those Tx guys get away with.
