Top case with easy release
07/01/14 5:06 PM

Guys, I'm sorry, but my head is spinning from reading all the various side case and top case threads ... and seeming to find no conclusion.

On my '13 I'd like to mount a Givi V47N topcase on a mount that allows for quick/easy release (and hopefully isn't too huge when the topcase is off ), but Givi just told me they have no topcase mounting method at all for my 2013 ZX-14R.

There's gotta be a way?

I have a '13 zx14r and I have a GIVI rack and a GIVI topbox with quick release.

This only releases the top box the rack stays fixed as does the mounting adapter plate.

There is no external difference in size between the 47L and the 55L. The 47L is a lot smaller on the inside though. Can not fit 1 xl and 1 med helmet in it but can in the 55L. This is due to internal locking mechanism in the 47L case.

poison ... Thanks! Does the Givi rack attach to the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack? Or did you fit the Givi rack directly to the bike? Was Givi wrong about having no racks that fit the ZX-14R? Or does it just require some modifications to fit?

Could I beg you to post a pic of your top case on the bike? And then the bike with the bracket without the top case? Please, pretty please?

Obviously I'm still not fully understanding

I'd like to see the set up too. Personally I am riding and wearing what I ride, a few sets of undershirts in backpac and my 45 is all I travel with.

will take photos in the morning and post them up

The racks bolt on through the main muffler bolt and the rear grab handle bolt holes.

Can't have the rear seat cowl on with rack.

There are the photos

As you can see the rack bolts on to the main muffler bolt and then to the rear grab handle bolts. The top box adapter bolts to the rack and the monokey box locks onto the adapter plate.

Was told it was all Givi. can see the box and adapter plate is. nothing on the rack though but all came in a Givi box.

Thanks so much, poison! I'm going to examine your pics closely.

Still not sure why Givi told me they have no mount for this bike!

I may be wrong but I think the North American set up May differ from the Euro and Asia set up. We don't have the grab handles that this Givi seems to need.

dpmaughan - From what I've read that is true, but that those non-US parts should be available thru any place that sells Kawasaki OEM parts.

And if that's correct, I don't know why Givi wouldn't have just told me something like, "Yes we have a mount, but it requires purchase of the Kawasaki OEM passenger handle."

... which is the way Twisted Throttle sells the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack: "Note: The North American version of the Kawasaki ZX14 / ZZR1400 rear cover panel must either be cut OR replaced with the European version of the rear cover panel when installing the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack."

The US model comes with rear seat cowl as standard. We have to buy it separately here in Australia.

Can fit the mounting plate without the rear grab rail but I thought it made the box sit down on an angle too far for my liking.

I had the grab handle off as I put seat cowl on bike but put it back on because screws were long enough. There was no clear directions saying mounting plate had to go on top or bottom of grab handle.

Have been thinking of trying it the other way as son doesn't have much to hold onto setup this way.

To be honest I'm still not positive what all I need to buy, so I think I'm going to start with the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack from Twisted Throttle, then get a Givi V47N, and figure out what else to do from there.

Again, thanks for posting, poison.

Just my 2 cents. I have the Alu Rack from twisted throttle and a Givi top case with backrest.
Backrest was a must as the girlfriend was getting cramped in trying to hang on (OOPS).
I don't remember the model of topcase but it holds quite a bit, and has a quick release.
You do have to get the plastic piece from Kawasaki for the grab handle kit( I have it). The grab handle is Ok but tough to hang onto for passenger. That was why I got the case and backrest.
All in all I was not sure about the top case.......in the end she is way more secure and comfortable and I have piece of mind.......
