BMW 1000 RR
12/13/09 4:39 PM

I was at the bike show today and I must admit that beemer had my attention 4 way to long. The rep had to almost pull me off of the bike to give me the price that I had asked him 4. Now this is where it gets ugly. 17,500 to start, with taxes and all the BS, 20,679 was the best I could do, out the door..... I know it's brand new technology and this is the fist year for this bike but....?????/ whatcha think? Nice bike or to risky right now?

Wait for the 2010 shootouts, I'm not sure that the bimmer will be better than the usual suspects.

For $20K you can build an amazing jap 1000 with Ohlins suspension, BST rollers, all power making components etc.

Hell, yeah. Mod the crap out of a japanese bike and you will be way ahead for the same money. I don't know what mods are like for BMW motorcycles but my guess is they are pretty limited.

Have to admit, that 183 hp on a skinny, stock literbike sounds mighty good. I'm not ready to trust European technology over Japanese quite yet though. The Japanese literbikes will match it if it really is all it is hyped up to be.

Performance

Measurements of the Akrapovic EVOLUTION system on the BMW S 1000 RR (without muffler insert):

Power & Torque: The power increase with the Akrapovic system is substantial, and can be seen from 7000 rpm right to the top of the range. At 13270 rpm we measured 191.30 HP, with a max. power increase of 11.15 HP at 8450 rpm. The system’s effect on the torque and power curve is huge and strongest at midrange rpm. The main increase starts at around 4500 rpm and continues right into the over-rev range. All this will help you shave lap times and result in a much smoother ride.

9th is where BMW came in. Did Backmarker Motor Werks tell their riders to sandbag till next year? 13270rpm is revvin' the piss out of 83 pounds of torque? We have 350cc's on them, give or take. I'll stomp on that special tool bucket of reliability Euoompapa.

Over rated pile of Brogan Metal Wobble you, you've got to be kidding me is over priced as usual too.

9th is where BMW came in.

Now that's reassuring. I think the inet chatter is going to quiet down in a while.

The dealership where I got my 14 sells BMW & Triumph. I'll have to stop in and ask about a price on the rr -- just for a laugh.

I've owned both used and new BMW's. If they need special tools for servicing, the engineering is not that practical.

You can splatter our bikes down to the bone. You will have to use way too many tools specific for the BMW design.
How come I have major problems crop up within 30K miles with that pile, where some on here are past 30k miles without a hiccup on their 14.

I think those were times, not a race. The other Bumbling MoreTore Wurks didn't work too well and that second BMW entered, DNF'd. Hey, I want to see them compete and do well. But to tool that bike up 193Whores IS Pee wow ear it comes in 9th and DNF to boot needing those is shitkckers to step around the pits, we turned it down from 213Horse IS Poop...

Stopped at the dealer today. None in 'til March but they have some preordered. 13,800 for the plain bike, 500 freight and prep, 65 doc, 50 licence & title = 14,415 + 5.6 Milwaukee county sales tax = $15,222.24

Race paint(red white & blue), 500 extra. ABS 400. Electric shift 300.

Thanks for the info Rook. I will now look at buying south of here. The bike I was looking at was the red white & blue fully loaded plus alarm system. I should have asked more about the alarm.lol

Make sure Canada and US have the same homogulation requirements or there goes another 1000$. Probably, it is the same if you can drive you car from one country to the other, I would think. If not the same, maybe they would order a Canada spec bike for you since you will be taking right back over.

I'm reading an article on and off ass you place that body part on seat is the light switch and fan is guess who's behind door #2? I've read enough to point out a magazine writer threw a leg over the bikes of the top WSB factory rides. His lap times pretty much matched how the factories came in on the podium as to winning the championship points.

But what was interesting and I may have to backtrack a little, but maybe not too many can rude the BMW? How rude I have to step this 14 up and the mag writer/racer said the BMW was the most powerful but he could not ride the pile either? And what did he conclude? The electronics won the races.

The article also points out that Honda is losing it's edge over the tiny black box; was to snatch the Martin Marietta boys working for YamAHAHAHAHAH!!! Shit, I'm trying not so hard to let Kawi ride my bike with that trans deluxe, would that Connie run sweet let alone your bikes.

In a way, I can see this just by the hacking/flashing to the bike you can do. And you think America is losing it's edge in tech?

Kind of a SurPrize, huh? They're all pro riders. You'd think the "20 extra hp" would have put any one of them on top.

Well, well, well up my eyes. If this is not practice in the rain with results from yes tear day. Everyone is more equal with wet tires. A decent rider comes out on top, not the bike. We have less HP to the ground. Might be making too much power that is unusable. Thus, the higher placing.

And for entertainment value, my rider has been Xaus for quite some time. I choose him to win the championship. Even if Xaus was riding a moped in the 600cc class, I'd still pick him to win. Say with that group above going round-de-round all year, I'll say Xaus will win a round or two.

I'm not sure, but this might be, Xaus.
