2002 CBR 954RR wont start need help!
05/26/12 1:11 PM

i have 2002 cbr 954 the other day i went to turn it on and the fuel pump started to prime, half way through its 4 or 5 second time it sut off. now i have no headlights no turn signals no fuel prime sound when key on and kill switch on. i have gone through and volt metered it from the instrument cluster we have 12v to the fuel pump, but the connector running off the wire harness to the fuel pump there is no volts. when we manually send 12v to the pump it primes but still wont start. bike does turn over with no problem. i unhooked the power commander and set it back to stock mode. still no fuel pump prime no headlights no turn signals but instrument pannel still reads with a green light for nuetral and then a red light. could this be an ECU blow out? what do you think?

Not sure how to check current I suck at electronics but yes all fuses are good and its a friends only transportation and all symptoms started a second after he put the key in the on position but that's why I think its the ecu.

Have you checked the CBR forums? I found this related to a CBR 600 but it sound almost the same issue.

How many miles are on the 2002?
How long has it been sitting?
How old is the gas in the tank?
How old is the battery in the bike?

Not sure! Will get back to you on that!
How long has it been sitting?
It’s his daily ride so it sat overnight before this happened!
How old is the gas in the tank?
Fresh not sure what octane!
How old is the battery in the bike?
Not brand new but voltage is good!

First find the age of the battery. Then, push the battery terminals, see if they are loose and move? See if the battery has corrosion on the posts? This may hamper flow to a few parts of the bike. The battery may show volts, but you need to cause a current draw. Like if the starter can spin the engine over?

With the lights going out, the key off, you finding 12v, not 12.6v or better, short of buying one, charge it or have it checked out? I'm leaning more towards a battery.

Is the battery an aftermarket or OEM over the counter type battery from honda?

The battery will turn the engine but fuel pump will not prime I will have to go back over to my friends house this weekend and check exact battery voltage and date but there is no corrosion on the terminals and cables on posts are tight!
P.S. we tried a different ecu and still has same problem!

bad ground on wiring harness

Always first thing I go for, Now, grrrrrrr. I too have had my ass kicked with bad grounds. On my 2010 first thing I did was run two new grounds off the Batt. Sick of problems that can not duplicate. Glad you got it. Cheers.

That sounds similar to what the other guy found in the CBR forum when he said, "It was a bad connection inside one of the connectors. The wire controlled the ground for all the lights up front thats why none of em worked.."

I am glad to hear you guys found the problem.

We put a new chain and sprockets on the 954RR regared for more getup and go (can’t remember the tooth count) but I had to show my buddy how the 14 will still walk away without going over 8,000 when I told him he was like you got to be kidding me I was pinned and I laughed but I only weigh 170-180 with gear!

If Honda did not change their color codes, green is ground. Look for all greens to be connected, especially if they are the individual bullet and hole kind of female/male connectors.

Kill switch + Fuel pump + crank sensor = Tie in as keeping the fuel pump from priming. Key switch is the 4th variable. I'd find the grounds to these as part of the problem to eliminate.
