New ZX15R
10/24/20 6:54 AM

I just got back from the Tail of the Dragon ride to end the season. I love the long rides 1500 plus miles on my 2009 ZX14. She’s so comfortable and set up perfectly for me. I’ve got a little over 60,000 miles on her. While I was riding I was think of how cool it would be for Team Green to come out with what I think would be a perfect hyper cruiser. Make her 1500cc, traction control, 3 power modes and one for long range cruise for better fuel economy, large TFT dash with a set program like the Ducati V4, adjustable engine braking, Ohlins electronica suspension with adjustable rear preload for riding two up, fuel gauge, with out side temp and miles to go, auto blip up and down shifting, slipper clutch, heated grip and seat option, USB port on dash, led headlights, and a full 6 gallons of fuel. Serious breaks M50’s with Brembo RCS master cylinders for break and clutch. Oh and last but not least 220 HP but even better 110 lbs of torque..... Under 570 lbs. MAN I LOVE my 2009 and the many adventures we gone on but if a bike came out with all that I don’t think I could hold back from buying her!! Lol what do you guys think?

I like your thinking. I've been saying for years that they should come out with a ZX15SC
They can start with the motor out of their big jet ski. 1500SC, supposed to make 300 hp
Unfortunately, I doubt they'll do it. The big hyperbikes are already a limited market.

Yeah unfortunately. I have that 1500cc super charged kawi 310LX jet ski. That motor is insane. That would be a great start for sure!

I think 300 OEM hp at a normal price tag would drum up a few sales. I'd be in.

I have to be honest I don’t need anymore power. I’d like 110 lbs or more of torque though. Torque is what it’s at on the street.

There could be a ZX-15 that would deliver all of that. It's going to be heavier than a liter bike but if it's not faster, I'm not too intrigued. They have to start making hyperbikes that clearly carve their own niche again or else what's the use of having them? The liter bikes already win in rollons and they can reach the same top speed. Sure I'd miss the low end grunt but the H2 seems to have plenty of that. The real leader in speed is always going to be the result of modification but a stronger platform is needed to keep hyperbikes relevant.

Close but still 60 to 100 pounds too heavy..I am a small person who is slowly losing my strength . Weight is the most important factor to me ..If I cant comfortably take it out of teh garage, it is too heavy :)

A lowered carbon fiber gas tank, and carbon wheels with ceramic bearings would make a big difference. Lighter tires, brake rotors, carbon fiber clipons and carbon pieces to replace the stock metal pieces after that.. There's a few rear subframes available now to drop a few more pounds as well. I'm not nearly as strong/fit as I used to be, but my zx14r still feels lighter than before.

IMO the 14 and bikes of it's ilk are, or will be history in the not too distant future. The serious weight loss mentioned in a few posts, on a bike as big as a 14, would mean a complete redesign and possibly more use of 'exotic" materials like CF, fancy alloys etc which would push the price up, stifling an allready limited market. Lets not forget also that the big K have chosen the SC route and invested a lot in their H2 range, smaller engines with same or more power. The hit of the covid pandemic will also have them scrutinising their budgets and markets no doubt. All this is before we even get to the climate change/emmisions hysteria of course which is already starting to influence manufacturer's near future designs. Enjoy the 14 while you can! JMO

To be honest I hope your wrong. There is nothing like the big cc motors of the ZX14 the Busa or even the BMW K1300 I think the model is. The super charged motors are ok at best. I have an H2 with 268 RWHP and I’d take my big displacement any day on a longer cruise than the SC moto. To be able to lug in 5th gear at 30 or 40 mph with 1340 or more cc, just roll it on and she just pulls and pulls. She’s not the sportiest thing but she’s no slouch either. For me there’s no better way to eat up a shit ton of miles. I’ve ridden her across county 4 times and every state in the US.

I hope I'm wrong too, it's just the way I see things going unfortunately. Agree 100% on the 14, certainly the best mile cruncher I've ever owned in almost 40 years of riding. Mine is a 2012 with around 37K on the clock and still as sweet as a nut but I've even considered buying another new one, while they're still available, to kep in reserve.

Unfortunately Somefun I think these bikes are going out. You mentioned the BMW K1300. I have a 2015 K1300HP which is a great bike and with a little work (Akra full exhaust & Bren ECU tune) is faster than most who have not ridden one would suspect. Unfortunately discontinued after 2016 due to lagging demand. The same thing is happening to the ZX14R & Busa. Not enough demand and tightening emissions rules are killing these bikes. Easier to make blown smaller displacement MC's that pass new emissions standards.

Yeah you might be right... I'm glad I just went completely through my 14 and replaced anything that bolts on. She'll be a classic and I'll keep her forever.... I can see in the future I'll proudly ride her past all the new buzzing electric bikes with a shit eating grin on my face as I cruise by on my dinosaur drinking monster. lol

This is why I found a pristine 9000 mile used 2012 ZX14R and bought it. I am no longer looking for the fastest street bike sold. I don't want to make a touring bike out of it, I have a 2019 Honda Goldwing for that. I will take short 2 to 3 day trips to Deals Gap from Louisville on it. As far as power, 200 RWHP is plenty for me now. Important to know your limitations and I no longer ride like the mad man I used to be.

Nice! I wanted to buy a Gold Wing for rides with the Mrs.... But we don't go on a ton and don't have the room in the man cave with all the rest of the bikes in there. I bet its a blast though. that motor is supposed to be amazing.

Yeagh Somefun before the latest version of the wing came out in 2018 I was not a fan. They shaved about a hundred pounds off the wing in 2018. It became more of a sport touring bike and I jumped onboard in 2019 and bought the DCT version.

Very cool. I always liked that one in the flat black also with no rear pack? Not sure which model it is? FB or something. That’s another cool one. How’s that motor? Is it a torque beast?

Torque is flat as a table top. I have a tour which has the rear pack but I bought a quick change kit from Traxxon Dynamics and I run without it except for trips. Nice to have a choice of bikes, I have owned between two and five at a time for the last 25 years.

That's awesome! Being able to remove the pack would be great for a nice day ride with the Mrs. I have the same bike issue. lol I think its more of a space issue. I have 12 of them right now and looking at another.

I had a fun time watching a guy in full leathers dragging his knee on his Goldwing.
I guess he's a sport bike guy but his wife demanded they get a comfortable touring bike.
