Until covic shut everything down I rode on the annual circuit of Ky ride every year put on by the Louisville BMW riders which was open to everybody regardless of brand. This is a ride around the outer borders of Ky and is about 1350 miles on secondary roads. We get everything from a few HD's to Japanese sport tourers (FJ1300's, Kaw Concours) and of course BMW's. One year I borrowed a 2014 GW. First time I rode one of the older GW's and frankly it kept up with and sometimes pushed the more capable sport tour bikes. Of course the GW will not run at 10/10ths with these bikes but 98% plus of the riders on them are not capable at this level. My newer gen GW is 100 pounds lighter than that 2014 and handles better than that 2014 I rode back then. Really a surprisingly capable bike within it's limits.
I used to look down on the wing in my wilder sport bike days but I really like the new 2018 plus bike.

Somefun you asked about the TQ on the new wings. I looked it up and Cycle World tested a DCT wing on their DynoJet 250. The bike made 103 ft/lbs of TQ at 1350 RPM's and stayed above 100 ft/lbs to 3,500 RPM's. This is on the 7 speed DCT model. The 6 speed manual makes 6 more pound feet of TQ.

@MikeZX14R15 Yeah a neighbor was moving and he came over and asked me if I wanted it. I told him I didn't want to buy it but he was moving so he just gave it to me. He said it hadn't run in 5 years. I pulled the carb off and cleaned it swapped out the gas and put in a battery that I had from something else and boom! she fired right up. I had it running within 30 minutes. The funny part is the guy and his wife were walking their dog the same day and I go flying by them on the thing with a beer in my hand. lol they had this total puzzled look on their faces.
