So went up to the house over the weekend. Had to be back at work on Tuesday since my job is considered Essential ??
We moved a half cord of wood and I shoveled a path for the wheelbarrow. July 1 can't come soon enough.

Glad you started this thread, Mad. Beautiful place! You still have snow? Gotta be in the mountains. No COVID-19 here either.

I expect to have limited forum access while this is all going on so I won't be able to pop in as often (probably unless I can't stand being away). Hope you all weather the storm well. I'll be teaching by internet and hoping this all settles down before next school year. I'll pop in when I can.

Yep we had a late season dump. Around 2 feet, but we need the water. The house is in Shingletown CA, population 1000. The house is at about 4000 feet. We're 28 miles directly East from Redding, 9 miles from Lassen National Park. We got super lucky finding the place and it was unbelievably cheap. 1 acre on a well.
I have a ton of projects to do once I retire in July, and I can't wait to get started.

This sounds very familiar to me, and although it won't apply to everyone all I can say is beware!

I worked my whole life to retire.
Couldn't wait.
I was going to live the life of a king doing whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.
It happened in 2015 when I was 52 years old and my wife Linda and I moved from Sydney Australia to Queenstown New Zealand.
First job?
Renovate the house we'd owned in Queenstown for 5 years. We'd rented it for this period and it was rented for 5 years before we bought it so it needed quite a bit of work to bring it to the spec we wanted.
New kitchen and bathrooms, knocking out walls and redesign, moving big rock fireplaces, adding an attic and sky light, full repaint both inside and out.
I did 85% of the work myself and it took around 7-8 months full time effort.
But when it was done, you beauty!

Now I could snow ski in winter, ride my 14 in summer, play golf whenever, we both could travel to where ever we wanted to, do all the amazing things Queenstown had to offer as well as the amazing alpine walks available and go to bars and pub's and drink to my hearts content.

The moral of all of the above dribble?

Within 3 months of finishing the house and doing anything I wanted, I just wasn't happy.
The good things just didn't seem that much fun anymore.
I think it was because it was all too easy and I kind of felt guilty that I hand't been working during the week to earn them.

After working my whole life to retire, it took me 3 months to realise I needed to go back to work.
Only difference was I was never going back to the stress and work load of the corporate world.

Luckily because of my private pilots licence I decided to look at the local airport for work options and picked up a great job in aviation sector.
Queenstown international airport is only small so it's like a family for all those who work there.
6 days on and 3 days off. Plus on the 6 days, the first 3 are working 5.00am till 1.30pm, and the last 3 days are 12.30pm to 9.00pm. So I still have half days to do my own things as well.

And still doing it today.

Now the good stuff like skiing and riding by bike are fun again because I feel like I am earning them.
And the wife is very happy because I'm not at home and in her hair all the time!

Hope retirement is all you had hoped for and you don't have the withdrawn syndrome like I did.

But be careful cause you never know how you'll react until you go through it...

I hear you Yannih, I have probably a couple of years of work to do around the garage and property to get done so that will keep me busy for a bit. Cutting trees, installing some grass, rewiring garage, fixing tire machine, getting the quad running etc etc. I may start a little side business fixing people's dirt bikes and quads. But I can work my own hours. I also joined Shasta Supermoto Club and will start racing a YZ250 at the Redding track. This year I'm going to be turnworking for starters. I'm not sure how bored I'll be here. Right now I find I can sit out on the back porch with my pipe and stare at squirrels for hours! It's pathetic...
And there's the flyfishing to get back to, the kayak to paddle around and on and on...
We'll just have to see how it plays out.

Im not far behind but we went for a place in the Mountains of N AZ, just to much traffic to even consider staying trapped in LA.

I'm not sure I read that correctly. Are you sure you're ok, yannih? JK, that shows some high moral standards you have for yourself. I, on the other hand....

LOL I don't mind going back to work after 3 months but I sure as hell am in no hurry!! I never get bored and the fun stuff just keeps getting funner!! I might even do it without pay if I had to but then you better believe I'd be eager to get back to work in 3 months!

I had a Corona Virus (like) last December. I brought it back from Pensacola, FL. I coughed for 2 weeks. It was getting bad when I coughed up Blood. I quit smoking in 1983. I never had a runny nose. It lasted 3 weeks. I had mononucleosis when I was 20 and it was worse. If I was older or had a weak immune system I would have been in the hospital.
Then I went back to Florida in January and a got a Spider bite on my leg that sidelined me for another month.
I did go to the Medical Clinic for a Remedy.

I'm done with Florida.
I was just about to leave for Death Valley when Corona Virus (March 11) hit the News.
Arkansas is almost shutdown. The State has closed the Buffalo National River Park. No one can camp in any of the State Parks. And today, the Governor has told all Hotels/Motels they cannot let anyone spend the night for "pleasure". My County Judge has requested no unnecessary trips, no pleasure cruises.
Retirement on hold.
Put on my PPE to check my Mail today.
