CHanged the color of my bike
04/15/13 10:14 AM

I have a full build thread of my bike since my accident in October on my local forum

Link ---> http://tampasportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php?60953-Caps-update-on-the-scooter

But I recently wrapped it and painted some stuff gold and I thought you guys would like some pics.
Wrap was the wrong one, finally got the new one in.

I got the front wrapped up finally...

And then I decided to get a little fancy

However, tomorrow I think I am going to extend the gold to the entire ram air on the front fairing.
And yes I'm skipping a ton of pictures which I can link if you guys really want me too.
All put back together

and I painted the M4 logo gold as well
Sorry I have been neglecting you guys here lately. I work 8:30-5 then spend a couple hours with the wife before venturing down to the garage to do whatever I can till normally 11ish, then sleep to do the same the next day. Along with juggling my extra work, painting the bike, installing parts as they come in, and the Justin Ride I haven't had a ton of time lately. And I go riding on any free time I can muster. But I brought some pictures as a peace offering to you mofo's in hopes that some of you may start showing some interest in this thread again (besides Jayson and Tommy <3 you guys).

So as most of you who are on my facebook (Sorry Tommy, it's always a couple days ahead of this thread) already know I have been painting my rims as well. The rear is done and has already been abused, the front won't get worked on till after the Justin Ride on Sunday.

This is the OEM bronze-ish color that they only made on the 06 (yes I felt kind of bad about painting them, no not enough to buy another set).

This is after 2 light coats iirc

And this is the final color at night.

This is the final color in direct sunlight (SUPER gold)

I cleared and mounted it so that I can sand it down in a week or two to the desired gloss. Right now it's really Matte, I think I want it a little glossier, but not to much.

The front on the other hand I wanted a high gloss

Here you can see the OEM color in the front, and the painted in the rear

No love for the scooter anymore?

OEM Color

Painted

And you guys only get pictures from the North Run today until I start getting some interest here.
And that brings us mostly up to date. The front is painted, cleared, and mounted. It even has a ride or two on it (the last pics), but I havent't gotten chance to clean it up and get some really nice pictures yet.

Nice job so far. Only 6 bikes on the run? Last ride we had 56 bikes.I usually stay up front . Post up the pics when you get the front painted.

Very nicely done and well thought out. Is that wrap a flat black like on the 08 le?

Mad, that is a North Run. It is a VERY technical run and not something that we take with large groups. We had a ride on Sunday that was 120+ bikes, but that isn't the kind of group you want to take north. And the front is painted and mounted, I just haven't had the time to get some nice pictures. In the last two pictures it is mounted but those aren't exactly good pictures.

Black, it is Satin Black.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but essentially it is giant vinyl sticker that you heat and stretch until you have it how you want.

Looks great. I especially like the gold in the air intake area. Nice touch. Love the rims the best, though. Really sharp and unique looking scheme.

Sand blasted, ready for powder :D

Before and After

And on to the fun stuff :-)

The brake mount REALLY limits how far forward it can go, I may still be able to take a link or two out, but right now it's WAY longer than I wanted. If I knew it would be this long I would have gone with a 45T rear instead of the 43T I got (41T is stock).

I'm going to ride it for a bit and see how a feel about it. Taking links out will only lessen the way to handles. So if it is blatantly apparent that I don't like it I would rather just take the blocks out instead of fiddling with the chain twice (once to take links out, once to take the blocks out).

But either way this is my bike as of now;

I was hoping the tail would only be 1-2 inches shorter than where the tire sits. That didn't quite happen...

It is also missing a brake line hose that didn't get powder coated yet.

My full build thread is here;

But I know you guys love pictures, so I figured I would bring some over occasionally :thumbs:

RE: CHanged the color of my bike

Well... Unsurpisingly the bike is getting more gold :thumbs: The wheels are currently painted, but they will be done in the same gold powderoat that the heel guards are already done in. Also, the Stator/Clutch covers will be done in the same gold.

First step is to get it on the lift and secured. I never realized how hard that would be now that it is stretched...

It required two people and removing parts of the lift (front wheel chock, and stopper), I may need to pick up an aftermarket front wheel chock and bolt it to this lift like Smokin has on his.

Then remove the parts for powdercoating

The wheels still need to be disassembled, but the shop that is going to remove the rubber isn't open today so I wasn't in a big hurry to get those done.

And the last step is to take some more (mostly useless) pictures for the forums :thumbs:
