ZX14 Quirks
06/14/11 7:39 PM

So far I've put 1k miles on here, and there's a few small things I'm noticing. The first is the sound I hear while in neutral at a light. There's a low humming noise, and I swear I can few a slight vibration. However, once I pull the clutch out it's gone. Ideas?

The second is the squeaky noise, at low speeds (~20) I hear a squeaky noise, wheel bearing?

The third, is hopefully just the throttle bodies. Anything under 25mph and she stutters. It acts like she's lost all power for a split second and then keeps going. Happens every couple seconds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. Noise in N. Pull clutch in, noise ceases to exist = Throttle body syn is out. Uneven pulse bangs that big clutch basket. Makes the clutch pack rattle with clutch out. Pull the clutch in, you separate the throttle being out of sync.

2. Gotta spin some static wheel and see which one is making noise? Can't be a bearing or it would be garbage all the time, right? Dry drive chain? Lube the chain, see if it goes away. Place a slight drag on the brake pads when you hear it. Did it go away? Could be brake squeak ever so slight.

3. Shutter might be a dirty air cleaner, to pointing back to the syn at the throttle bodies. That tune has to be both low speeds and center screw plate settings. If that is not book set, better take it to one that can, or you'll chase your tail with just the center sink screw alone.

What year ZX14 is it?

As for throttlebodies being out of sync, last time I was looking at mine, they were still set the way they came from factory.

But I had some stutter under 25mph, or more specifically, under 3,000 rpm, which went away when I put the CT-Duals and piggy on it. So I guess Brock's map fixed that, or something.
