Any C14 owners in here?
10/06/17 9:38 PM

I must be insane but I'm thinking of getting a C14 to run alongside my 14R.

Only concern is engine heat, my stock 14R was just too damn hot to ride 7-800 miles in one day. Since I would keep my C14 stock, this concerns me. Same engine I know, but they are tuned differently and have completely different fairings.

So C14 vs ZX14, less heat, more heat, same? Also would be helpful to state what year bikes you had/have since the newer ones supposedly have less heat.

Thanks in sdvance

My bud put 15K miles on his 2012 C14 before selling it, and he never mentioned heat once. And he is def the kind of guy, if there was a heat issue, he'd have mentioned it. Also, I rode it once and never noticed any heat. Now I do always wear waterproof boots and long pants.

The C14 has the 1352 of the G1 not the 1441 of the G2

I have a 2015 C-14 and have never noted any excessive heat and I have 8K miles on it. Seems about the same as my ZX-14R. My Rocket 3 with aftermarket headers is another matter though...

It does give quite a bit of heat with the stock tuning (2017 model), but after my programming it gives off very little.... no more than the 14R does with my programming.

Great bike... I'll be keeping it as a long term bike.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback back.

If a stock 14R isn't hot though I don't know what is. To me it's a furnace even with Ivan's flash.

I guess it depends how much time you spend in traffic...

My 14R doesn't give off a lot of heat unless you are stuck in traffic... anything with a radiator will under those conditions.

OK I had to think about your comment about the ZX14 running hot, and I'm sure you're right. From my perspective, mine isn't my main transportation but rather just a hobby, so I almost always ride only when the weather is nice (i.e. not boiling hot, not raining, etc), and not in traffic: When we ride, we intentionally head right on out of town, away from traffic. So, yeah, I have no doubt the bike gets very hot in summer heat and/or traffic. Seems like they all would, though ... ?

I'm referring to 90F+ ambient though and any fully faired I-4 is hot, I was just curious. Seems like leather pants negate the problem anyway, I just wish I'd known that sooner.

I've had my 2010 C14 for 6 years and never noticed a heat problem. Then again, I usually don't ride when the temperature is above 85 degrees F either as I wear MTTATT (M = most) ;)

If you get the C14 as a stablemate for the ZX14, you will enjoy each bike that much more. Well, at least I do. :)

85-90 degrees sounds chilly.

I ride every day and on average over 100 days a year are triple digits and quite
a few over 110.

I always wear full leathers and boots.

You are right, with leathers you do not notice the heat off the bike at all.

All water cooled bikes are running in and around the same temp range maybe just
more hot air quantity wise off a 1400.

You are a much tougher guy then me, 350-400 miles a day is about max for me.
No way I can do 700-800 miles a day. That's like 14-16 hours in the saddle.

Having said all that, if I was putting miles on like that, c14 way to go.
Forget about heat, better ergos, storage, wind protection and no chain maintenance make
much better distance bike.

True a combustion engine will produce heat no matter what, in my opinion, the problem with the ZX14 is that the fairings were designed to be as aerodynamic as possible. The designers just forgot that there's a rider there too.

The fairings are swept back towards the bike so that air that passed over the radiator flows over the riders legs. My ZX9 had the fairings where it pushed the air away from the bike and ended abruptly. As a testament to the difference that makes I was able to ride in a heavy downpour and not a drop of rain got on my feet and legs.

I don't have any issues with heat from the ZX14, but I also wear full gear and live in a colder climate. I could imagine riding in 100+F weather, even at speed, being a bit like sitting behind a furnace.
