Guess I may have wasted 500.00
04/18/14 7:31 AM

I got a really good deal on my bike back last November, so good that I sprung for two extra years of warranty.

Spent the better part of last night reading some ECU flash threads and watching Youtube videos with a few Sierra Nevadas I would really like to try this, see how my bike performs unrestricted.

I suppose I have technically voided the warranty by putting the Muzzy slip ons on it, though i have also been told that most shops turn a blind eye to slip ons, and only have a problem with a complete system.

Still thinking about it, but just wanna make sure Ive got this straight.

1. Messing with the ECU voids the factory warranty.
2. Owners of the Woolrich system can revert back to stock settings at will? Does this leave a data trail that a shop would see?
3. If I chose to just send my ECU somewhere, i take it out send it off for a street map, tell them about my slip ons and thats it? I dont need anything else, nothing else to buy?

Sorry for being a neophyte. Just reading the threads and trying to follow the evolution of flashing the ECU is a bit confusing for old farts like me.

I can answer number 3. yes that is all you need is to send it off for a tune. Nothing else will be needed bud.

Hey bud,

1. Flashing the ECU does technically void the warranty, it also depends on your dealership and how well they work with customers on any issues.

2. Yes, the woolich software can be used to flash ur bike back to a stock map if necessary.

3. Yes, that is all you would have to do, simply send out ur ecu and it can be flashed and returned to you usually same day turnaround.

This will:

Remove ur top speed limiter
Increase your redline to 11500rpm
Adjust and unify your fuel maps for each cylinder
Adjust and smooth ur ignition timing map
Map each gear individually
Remember last traction control setting
Etc.

There are many aspects to a flash and I would simply suggest choosing a tuner that you can communicate well with. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to gimme a call or shoot me a message anytime. Once you ride your baby with a good flash sir, you will not ever look back!

The odds are very slim they are going to look inside your ecu if something happens. The only way that may happen is if your motor explodes and Kwai personally wants to take a look at what happened. Or you blabber mouth to your dealer/service tech about the flash. Most people that flash ECUs will flash it back to stock for free.

1. Messing with the ECU voids the factory warranty. Yes.
2. Does this leave a data trail that a shop would see? No. It's like flushing the toilet
3. If I chose to just send my ECU somewhere, i take it out send it off for a street map, tell them about my slip ons and thats it? I dont need anything else, nothing else to buy? Dude, 2 years of warranty and if that's a kawi contract, you might blow 2 years of warranty just to get your ballscratched.

Either commit or get off the pot. If some code light comes on and can't be removed you are screwed both in tune and warranty: so wait. If that code was removed and you go to the dealer the next day or so, yes, saved in memory so a tech can chase the last trouble code and decipher from there. So it's more or less a yes and no for #2.

Either commit to the itch or play out the money already spent? For #3, it's a little more involved about what you think is a street map and your slips are taken care of. C showed the list that is done, or select from the list so you have your street whatever? Figure out what you want to do first. It's like saying a tickle to a scratching there of. What and how much do you want it keeps going this tuning crap.

Either you have a very well tuned bike that gets the best gas mileage or you stop a lot you go scratching a lot. Could you live with a pig that is removable for 2 years you can select autotune and have the best of both worlds during a 2 year span, or something goes wrong and it sure is not the pig changing a tune.

Flash wise, I would not touch a brand new bike and have that added to the variable under warranty. The slips are not related to warranty if it's an engine or fueling problem. Pulling pipe or plugging hose does not cause a mechanical or electrical failure in other words. That kind of stuff is under warranty. You scratching up the OE parts is your dime. Breaking off plastic tabs is your dime. Tagging valves at a higher rpm with a flash is your dime.

Flash wise, the parts are made to meet or exceed a hp rating or they'd be popping like flies on a fairing in a TT race. If that engine blows, it would have blown if not flashed. JMO. Your only problem here is time and money. Was it money well spent you jump in the lake with the rest or wait it out you pissed away the 500.00 warranty money, or do I have that reversed?

Signed,

NOLTT

This will:

Remember last traction control setting - Why if I were a tech that stayed up on the shit, I'd be seeing some mode switching and key offing and oopsees watt just happened? So if I key on, my guess is the OFF stays on? 'Remembers last setting?'

Wouldn't you get away with everything but the setting of traction control? If the tech comes back, he mentions how it runs, didn't he go beat the bike some? Would he know the difference not being on the bike like all those 600's, scooters, cruisers, but rare is a ride on a 14? And if they prep the bike and beat shit out of it past book limit? So could you get away with a flash if the tech was clueless in the mode setting checking there of? How close am I?

In the cold light of day, think Ill just sit on the bank Hub...its hard to piss away 500. By the way you may be a linguistic savant, and the personal Faulkner of your hometown. I like your style....Cblast, Im tempted...read a few reviews the other night of your work. Im gonna do it, but maybe closer to when the warranty runs dry..thanks all.

Bardahl, For sure it's a crap shoot, but it's 5 big ones and the anticipation will be that more rewarding. As you know, time goes by fast and this surely will speed along as if yesterday we had this conversation. You made a smart decision.

Thats a good one, and so true. He actually passed away about 15 miles from where I live, a sanitarium in Byhalia if memory serves me correctly. There is a gas station or something there now.

How would you describe the sound? Is it low or Racey?

Thanks. I like em'.

I would describe the sound as about halfway in between the two. More subdued than a full System at lower revs, not as low as say a Two Brothers set of slip ons.
On top of the gears rolling on, it sounds like a big ass hornet.
Somebody on here had a sound clip on Youtube at one time with a pair of Muzzy slipons....he was using the exhaust pressure to blow a pan of bolts around when he reved it. It sounded really good. Wish i could remember who it was so i could point you that way. That and the more retro look sold me.

Seems like i paid right at 600 to 58Cycle which was the best price i could find. Transaction was flawless. Of course after i paid 600 I started seeing good used ones on here for 300 and less.
