i was clocked today by the highway patrol. i was cruising at a little over 170 on my speedo and he said he clocked me at 161 3 times. he was sitting by a well house off the road. is my speedo off that much? i know i was at over 170 cause i was keeping an eye on it.

I always hear stock speedo reads 7% faster than actual speed.

170 x 7% = 11.9

170 - 11.9 = 158.1

Hope you didn't get a ticket. Looks like the radar was close.

Just read a thread about how a 5 mm taller than stock tire will bring the speedo reading closer to reality. It would seem to follow that a nearly used up tire would make the speedo read even higher than it does on a fresh tire.

This so true . I've checked this numerous times with GPS .

didnt get a ticket. the hypo new me and told me he better not have to work my crash someday. thanks for the info.

At that speed I would have made the evening news and been locked up here in phoenix.

No kidding, buck20 ! If I were to go over 100 around where I live, I'd get a big price ticket and maybe a suspended license. I could go fast on the country rural roads, but then instead of a ticket, I'd get plastered on the side of a big old tractor trying to come out a farm lane and cross the road at 2 mph.

Here in Toronto if your 50km over they take your bike or car on the spot and your deemed a street racer . Now staring down the barrel of a 10,ooo dollar Fine.
