PLUGS
03/12/19 9:28 PM

Getting ready to change the plugs on my ‘15. It wasn’t exactly a snap on the ‘11....just wondering from the guys who’ve had both gens, and changed plugs on both, if it’s about the same or is the gen2 tighter/less clearance? Guess I’ll find out soon enough if no one chimes in...just trying to get an idea if I’m looking at any unseen headaches different from the gen1. Thanks in advance. Mark

I changed on both G1 and G2. G2 is a bit tighter but no real issues. I have avg size L hands too

is the gen2 tighter/less clearance?

Like Rudy said, the Gen2 has less clearance under the air box than the Gen1.

and don't forget the old shade tree mechanic trick to install the new plugs with a short piece of 1/4 fuel line hose so you don't risk cross threading

Machinist by trade, but wrenched at 2 dealerships down in TX in the mid 80’s in between oilfield slumps, and picked up a lot of nice tidbits like that. Thanks for the recall Rudy! :)

the only real hassle is taking off the damn fairings and being gentle and careful to not to break a tab or lose one of the screws. Brocks has a vid I have used so I dont forget to remove a screw somewhere hidden

You'll probably discover the plugs look just fine at 30K. That's when I changed mine for Iridiums, but I could have put the originals back in and never known the difference.

Same here. I changed mine around 40k and I didn't notice any improvement with brand new plugs. I would change closer to the service interval however. Mine had a bunch of tiny melted balls around the electrodes. I have no idea if those balls fly out into the motor and if that causes any problem. Next time, I will change before they occur if that is possible.

There are a bunch of macros curtesy of Hagrid on this thread:
