Supersprox

I know it's probably been stated previously, but Supersprox rear sprockets are practically indestructible. Just pulled mine with 52,000 miles of use and you can barely tell a difference between it and a new one. Could have cleaned it up and saved $90.

I have a Supersprox front. As mentioned on another thread, I have to have a look at it.

If you're interested in a good 41-tooth SS rear, buy mine for $35, clean it up and run it another 52K miles. I was sent an 18T front and the only difference I can tell it the chain rattles slightly on the primary sprocket surround. Once moving, the noise goes away, but pushing it around the garage is a laugh.

this is a closeup of the 50,000 mile sprocket on top of a brand new zero-mile example.

I'm not much of a sprocket Dr but to my naive eyes the well used one one doesn't look that different than the virgin?

same here. I'd put a virgin chain on that experienced sprocket any day.

That experienced sprocket wore out what was left of the original chain and two more brand-new ones, so I figured it was time for a replacement. Had I known how little wear there was, I probably would have just replaced the chain and front sprocket which was toast at 70K

Has anyone weighed a supersprox front sprocket?

You can save about a pound (if memory serves) by converting to 525 pitch. Almost everyone who contributes an opinion thinks it's not safe but just a thought. I don't think I would do it.

The Supersprox front is relatively noisy compared to the OEM unit which has damping buffers on both sides. Grind them off and they’d be closer in weight. Tool steel is all about the same, weight-wise.

I don't notice any noise from my 17T SuperSprox. If you ground the sides off the OEM front sprocket, I think that'd eliminate any reduction in noise it has. I always thought that was what the rubber was for.

That’s exactly why it’s there. I received (but did not request) a SS 18-tooth front and it made a rattly noise, probably from contact with the inner sprocket shield, every time I wheeled the bike around the garage and at parking-lot speeds. It was only an annoyance, but who wants that? I went back to the OEM 17.

OH --it was the extra tooth that caused it to be noisey--not the fact it lacked the noise damper?

The rattle was likely from the size increase from the extra tooth, but the undamped sprocket was noisier overall than the OEM. Of course, the only time I could hear it was when the pipes weren’t barking.

same here. My bike's really loud and I might not notice a smaller noise. I have no damper or plate in the sprocket cover either although I don't know if that does anything to deaden sprocket noise. I think it's there for safety.

"I think it's there for safety".Probably there to keep the chain from smacking the case if it fails.Getting lodged in there.Possibly ensuring less grease to build up on the case also?

I kept the front chain guard since it looked like it had some wear marks on it, it probably is doing something to hold he chain in place and definitely prevents grease from flying as the chain makes the small turn on the sprocket. I took the foam rubber damper and plate out of the cover. It probably would prevent the chain from busting out of the cover if the chain ever came off. Also it might catch the chain and hold it in place instead of whipping around and damaging the engine case ---or your foot.
