how to wire a distribution block in the dash area for power and ground
09/24/18 9:33 PM

I am having trouble finding the right product to use in my Dash to add accessories to my bike easily now and in the future. I want a distribution block for accessory power and another one for grounds next to it. Everything I see is for very large wires.....0 gauge to 4 with 8 ga outputs. That is too large for my needs. I want something like 8-10ga input and 14-18 gauge outputs. Am I just going to have to get one that takes larger wires and make it work?
Also what is the best way to hook it up so that it is key activated power?

I want to hook my ground lighting, and badge lights to one. My cigarette lighter to another and heated grips, etc. I am guessing it should be a fused accessory block but my car stereo days are 20 plus years ago so I am fuzzy on what I need.

thanks
Chewy

How do I wire it up?

How do I hold the wire block in place?

Piggyback off of the power side of the horn wire. This gives you a hot block when the key is turned on.
Goop a toggle switch with a reminder light somewhere at the dash. This way you do not leave the toggle on if you rather run remote off the battery. Buy a cig lighter receiver. Glue the cig receiver anyplace you want it. By fusing off the horn wire, the fuse blows at your block first I believe, not the bike's horn fuse.

I would get a marine grade fussed block and mount it in front of instrument panel, behind the windscreen. I would run 12vdc from the battery to a relay then to the fuse block. I would use the power from the horn or running (small) light to trigger the relay. This way you have a keyed power block with it own power. This is the safest and most reliable method. If you need I could draw up a schematic. I did this on my dual sport to run off-road lights and other stuff.
You can get it all from amazon in a couple days and run you around 40. Or you can use a single fuse a a powere block.
