Sadly last year after buying my new 09zx14 I under estimated the power this machine has, especially after mods. (Power commander, K&N, 2-bros exhaust.) I was so excited I decided to take it out, well sadly after a day in a half going through the mountains in Idaho between Idaho City, Id and Lowman, Id I found out the power this beast has. Coming around a corner I gently gave the bike throttle and spun the rear tire losing control. I was devastated and disappointed and the wife was PISSED!!!!!!. Fortunately I walked away with my tail between my legs and my pride broken as well (literally). I had all winter to work on this bike, I had the option to let a shop work on it but I decided to do the work myself. After days of sorting through the wreckage and figuring the parts I would need $$$$ later and hours of hard sweat and labor I am PROUD to say my baby is back together. One thing I realize is that I feel I have a strong bond with this machine. I think it’s due to the hrs I spent in my garage alone with no help at all putting her back together. $$$$$ure does looks a lot better now. I'll say you bonded with that bike. I'll say you do not bent mid pipes without that baby standing up in the air. YOu must have been hauling for the wheel to let loose. Yeah, real gentle like. Not with that back end taking a flip. Look at the muffler angle, the rear is so tweaked, the fender popped out. Lucky the wife didn't send you to bed without dinner.

ozoscar83301: My hat's off to you. That is an incredible amount of work you did there. A real labour of passion, she looks amazing! That burnt orange reminds me of my last bike, a ZX11 in that rare burnt orange and purple European paint scheme. This pic is at around 100,000 Kms on her. I sold when she needed a rebuilt engine to a guy who was going to rebuild and turbo charge for 1/4 mile duty.

I can totally relate to the affinity you feel for a machine that you have built-up yourself with your own hard work, perseverance and knowledge. It is a creation of talent now. Awesome job!

I rebuilt my wife’s crashed VFR that we picked up for cheep a couple of years ago (sold now).
I also had a little wipeout on my ZX14, a little ice will really ruin your day on a bike.
I had to do a little part replacement and painting, but nothing of that magnitude, my accident was just off the line .

I bought my ZX14 at the end of the season, and as she sat with 2500Kms on the ODO, I stripped her down and performed around 25 modifications, the greatest of which was baking and splitting the headlight pods and installing CCFL halos on the high beam projectors. I am an electronics tech, so allot of the work was on the lighting, now every light on the bike is unique, LEDs, Incd., HID, and even performs in a unique ways, I even have escort mode on the signals, which will now light up at 3 different intensities, and I can turn off the low beam projectors with a handlebar switch.

Did you get the frame's geometry checked?

This looks like a serious wreck from the first photo.

yes, only damage was forks & body & radiator. the bike fell on right side slid & hit a sighn. looks worse than what it was.
