I'd like to take mine off and have it powdercoated.
Anyone taken theirs off? I just don't want to find out it's more complicated than removing 5 bolts.
Any gaskets or something else involved?

I wouldn't say easy but you could do it. It is kinda weird there are three that hold it(gas cap) to the tank (long ones )one top two bottom and two (short ones)sides . From what I remember once you pull off the cap that ring your talking about is part of the gas cap you can take it off if you really want to, there is a pin holding it to the rest of the cap and lock drive the pin out the ring will come off. The two side bolts are just for looks they are just into the ring not the tank or cap you don't even need to rempve them till you pull off the cap oh! you'll need the key to unlock the tank then it will come off. So three bolts, key, unlock remove cap, drive out pin done deal. No gaskets just a tank seal on the cap.
