the manual states do not use fuel additives.however, they could mean a number of items...injector cleaner is probably fine.or stabil when storing.it's a bit difficult sometimes to find non-ethanol...but that's the best choice imo.90+ octane.around here,i think the higher octanes don't have ethanol.

Ok here we go round whatever I'm.up to now.....

So today I gethome and put a 500ml bottle of Nulon pro octane booster I then took the big girl for a ride after a few corners and a good mixing my bike is running really nice no hesitation, no missing and no stutter. So Im at a loss ast whats really going on. I cant honestly have got two bad loads of fuel in a row whilst trying to remedy and figure it out as I have been doing.

I will run this tank through and see if the problem comes back on the next fill but I have never ever had to run an octane booster ever when only ever putting 98 octane fuel in my vehicles ever but the result was it has stopped what it was doing.

I will keep everyone posted and also a big thanks to all that chipped some info in hopefully it has just been crappy fuel and thats the end of it.

Cheers guys,

Ben

'have got two bad loads of fuel in a row'...lol..anything's possible.water.yep...it could happen.i think on your next fill...it'll be fine.just stay away from the previous fuel station.you might think about adding some 'heet' in there maybe one time now that it's running okay.

Ok so update on my end just in case anyone with the same problem is reading this. Finally got fed up with pouring a bottle of cleaner in every fill up. Got a second hand fuel pump off of Yahoo auctions and replaced my old one, result: bike runs perfectly now, no stutter whatsoever. Honestly I think Its these in-built pump filters that clog up over time. Anyway though I'd share in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Edit: thanks to rook and everyone else for pointing me in the right direction!!

I wanted to post up some info on my experience with the dreaded hesitation below 3000 rpm problem.

Data points
-2008 w/Muzzy full system, Power Commander III
-bike was purchased approx 4-6 weeks ago
-3098 miles (yes, three thousand miles on this 2008)
-displayed the nasty hesitation below 3000 from the first moment I rode it
-anything above 3K, runs beautifully
-ran a can of SeaFoam through it - no joy, still jerky below 3000 rpm
-just came in from cleaning the fuel filter which is inside the fuel pump

I'll reserve final judgement for several more miles/days but the bike hasn't run this well in the past 2,000 miles I've put on it. I believe this will end up being the remedy.

All the best-

Devin

Sorry, I'm not clickin on any links anywhere anymore so dont know what you did or did not do.

Have Guhl flash your ECU or get a good dyno tune and be done with it.

Thanks, 44. I saw that thread a few years ago. I gotta remember this because one day, it is probably going to happen to mine.

Hopefully this will help with search terms:

dirty fuel filter

cleaning fuel filter

replacing fuel filter

Very nice, thank you sir. Thank you as well for all the tutorials you've spent so much time documenting; it made yesterday's exercise much less frustrating :)

Update on my girl is it's still going as strong as ever since the injector clean and octane booster plus all the other bits I did along the way. Although it was probably not required the injector cleaning and testing I had done has honestly made the throttle response so crisp and clean actually feels like the day I rolled it out of the dealers. Plus it was easy as to remove them I had a mobile guy one and strip them ultrasonic clean and pressure test them.

What was the cost for the injector cleaning?

I'm in Australia and for a mobile guy here it was $140 dollars for all four taking into account I had removed them already. That included all new mesh filter screens and prints plus the required ultra sonic bath cleaning to get them right.
