She really rips!
So, the story goes... My dad had bought this in the early 70's and was a daily driver to get around town. Us kids took it out from time to time too and drove the back streets of town, illegally of course. The bike had been sitting in the garage for close to 20 years when I convinced him to give it to me so I could try to get it running. (Took a few years of asking before he gave in...) I tinkered with it over the winter a couple years ago and got it all cleaned up, seat redone, polished what I could etc... Paint needs work but that will be when I get it running well.
I cleaned the carb and tank and got it running, so well in fact that I registered it and was driving it around town a bit... until the day I was making some adjustments... the idle stuck on high and BOOM. Or should I say clunk?!?!?! Blew the motor. Shattered the side of the piston where the pin goes through. Looking back, I really should have pulled the motor apart more before trying to get it running, but what's done is done. Scrounged up some parts, got it honed etc and now she starts and will idle until the cows come home... just won't keep running if I give it gas. Probably a carb issue but haven't had the time to investigate.
It was pretty cool getting it running... My Dad was able to take it for a ride... first one in 20 years on that bike! I felt a sense of pride for sure... it's a small thing but it was a bond regardless. Obviously he introduced me to bikes and this was a cool connection.
Enjoy the pics... excuse some of the junk in the background, like I said, this was over the winter so I was stuck in the cellar!
