I changed the battery and the grommet with success thanks to you all.
It gives me great satisfaction to do these things myself and I am very grateful for your help.

My first ride after my battery change was about an hour each way.
When i saddled up to return with the bike in neutral side stand up I turned the ket to on,
A picture of a key came up on the dash and the immobiliser light flashed real fast, I did the off/ on thing, same, so i pulled out the key, turned it around and it worked.

I was a bit panicked when it wouldnt start at first,

Does my bike have a problem which needs attending or what should I do you think.
Its the first time I have ever seen a pic of a key on the screen.

Our US bikes do not have the immobilizer like the EU bikes have.

Although that would freak me out too.

Best guess is the bike is still going through some type of
on Board Diagnostic / Drive Cycle from disconnecting the battery.

I'm sure after getting it home you tested again and was fine.

Flipping the key probably had nothing to do with it, just breaking
and resetting the RF signal is probably what worked.
