2006 runs hot
03/30/22 3:50 PM

Hello I have a question for all my learned zx14 fanatics. I have a 2006 model and this will be my second summer on it and it seems that the bike runs on the hot side usually stays on three bars goes into the fourth bar often but have never seen it blink. Is this a common occurrence.?

Blinking is a code. Hold both {trip and mode} buttons down simultaneously, wait for a code number to appear. What's the number?

I wanna say there is 5 or 6 bars like the fuel gauge. But yes if you live in a worm climate it can get hot at the stop light or heavy slow traffic. I have had pretty good luck running engine ice coolant. Some upgrade to the seconds fan from later models.

I have the same year and yours is exactly like mine. I stopped worrying about it as long as the temperature drops when I start moving. If you're still stressed about it you can add a 2nd fan from a Gen 2 or get a fan
from Schnitz Racing.

The bottom bar with the C in it is actually the lowest bar. If you live in a hot climate, that bottom bar might always be on even if the engine is air temp. Three bars is right in the middle and that's where mine runs most of the time. It can go to 4 bars. It might go to five bars if it's sitting still at an idle for a while. I only saw 6 once and that was when I was doing AFR tuning without a fan blowing on the radiator. The only time it wouldn't rise above 2 bars was in the dead of winter when I started it on a subzero day. The bike idled over 20 minutes and the gauge wouldn't go past 2 bars.

A full system exhaust made mine run noticeably cooler. I saw 4 bars more often with the stock exhaust.

Rook, old post here but I'm new to the ZX14 world. Been scanning across the forum for this topic and have a question about your exhaust. Is the one you have a sidewinder or a type which is re routed to avoid passing beneath the oil pan? Thanks much!

The exhaust on my 2008 was a Tsukigi Cannon. It passed under the oil pan just like the stock exhaust. It was a single muffler.
