Forgot what sized wrench....seems like it was an 8 mm. Use a box end if you cant get a small ratchet in there. There's two acorn nuts under the top fairing holding the mirrors on. The fasten the studs under the mounting plate.

You will need to remove the ram air tube covers to get at them. Check out my tutorial on fairing removal in stickies on this section. The top fairing is held in position by grommets so it won't fall off but these studs and nuts are the main fastener for the top fairing ...just so you know.

DO NOT over tighten the nuts when you install. They will be very tight to break loose but people have cracked the top fairing by going to tight on the nuts when they install mirrors..so use some blue locktight and just go "tight." Maybe a bit tighter than snug. There is no special torque spec for these.

These are 6mm acorn nuts so it's a 10mm wrench. You could piggyback a wrench over the 10mm wrench and break them loose that way. For these, that's my M-O. These are built-in lock washers: once you see the stout base of the acorn. That's the bitch of getting these off. They 'snap' when broken loose they are the cat's meow.

That snap loose is a solid fairing brace to mirror base. I do not see how you crack the fairing, if those nuts are barked down that tight, where are we losing clearance at the fairing it cracks? Watch what you are doing and forgo the blue locker. Those acorns are going nowhere: we want some locking nuts. Then here is your combo nut w/lock washer and flat washer all built-in-one.

OH-- I do not use the acorns anymore because they do not fit my mirror block off plates. If they are self locking, I don't think I'd use locktight on them.

Sounds like a good plan just don't go too tight.

I read a couple posts and saw pics of the top fairing with a crack starting at the mirror base plate. Most fasteners for the fairings are well nuts but not these. I never tighten my solid mount fairing fasteners real tight but I use blue locktite on them. The well nut fasteners, barely snug and NO locktite.

,,

I hope the pictures went on ok. With that said , Thanks for the helpful assistance . I did a nine day , 2600 mile trip from central Ohio to northern Ontario , Canada . On day two a little accident and slapped on the little mirror thinking they may say something at the border about not having two mirrors. Ordered these and with your help , got them on and very well pleased about the way they look. Thank you again

Cool. I didn't hear anything about Ebay. Those OEMs are pricey brand new.

If it's a 2006-2011, you don't need to take anything off before removing the ram air covers. Just take out the bolts and don't loose the little plastic washers.

See Inner Covers (Ram Air Covers) Gen1 FAirings Removal

Turn the handle bars to get more clearance when lifting each cover. Take your time and don't force it, there is that lil nob up on the front and it could snap off easy. That nob is a bit frustrating the first couple times you remove and install these.
