New ZX 14 Perf Shops
10/29/09 1:12 PM

Just purchased a 09 ZX 14. I live near St Augustine Florida. I am looking for a reliable performance shop to help with tweaking the bike. Any Floridians out here with some reccomendations?

Jeffery,

You don't need a shop if you are mechanically inclined. These are more unbolt the clog and install the better flow. Where do you want to start?

1. Pipe?
2. PC?
3. Internal mods?
4. Hacks? (not the best O/A way to go, but more a limited window of performance).

Used to work on my bikes...Been working on my Harleys for a long time.....I just don't have the confidence to work on the Zx with the body work...Also not a super techie so don't want to mess with laptops and worrying about maps... What I would like to start with is pipes and a power commander and I would assume a better flowing airfilter...

Start with the left side air grill. This will gain access to the air cleaner plate. Once you start to remove panels and know how much to reload the bolt on the plastic so as not to break the panels or lose the bolts, the fairing parts become more routine.
So for an immediate change in air flow, you can carefully remove the air filter element, razor blade off the melted plastic tangs that hold that steel like guard on the back. We are talking some dangerous contamination if your bike is a high miler like 3 or more thousand miles on it. There is going to be a bunch of debris on the one side of the ram chamber.

You'll need a flashlight and a wet paper towel to collect anything that dropped into the post-ram side that may be sucked in by the engine. So a super sensitive cleaning around the pre-ram needs to be addressed before you reinstall the modded stock air cleaner again. I do not use a fuel cutter for that air cleaner mod, nor do I need a PCom for the pipe mod.

These are just more options on top of options, if you want to keep enhancing the performance gain. So, you can within a few minutes, start uncorking a gain without a dime spent but your time to cut and clean the stock A/C.

Just picked my bike up With the Tsukigi Stainless and Titanium system with a power commander v installed, The guys at Coast Performance here in St Augustine FL did a custom map and dyno runs...I wasn't expecting a whole bunch of change since the bike was so quick already...Boy was I wrong...I can't believe the difference HP went from 153 to 171..The throttle response is amazing also....The pipe growls...exactly what I was hoping for....Anyone here in north Fl I wholeheartedly reccommend the guys at Coast Performance

That's a good pipe you've got there! I'm running Tsukigi on my 10.
