I have a friend who rides a 2004 Yamaha 650 Classic cruiser. The bike is at 13000 miles and manufacturer recomends valve check. Are there any symptoms that would indicate that this needs to be done immediately or can it wait a while?

Thanks Hub. I have never checked or adjusted valves. Do you think I should try to check valves fopr her? (guy is a girl).....or is this something better done by a certified shop? How difficult is the process for a nube like moi?

Thanks Hub. I am going to have to ask to watch when I have my valves checked some day. For now I'll tell the lady to bring her bike to the shop before she rides this Spring. I'll tell her you said it should be done by an expert.

Kind of surprising a low HP bike like that doesn't have the "maintenance-free" hydraulic lifters.

^^^??? It's a metric but it's a cruiser...Don't know, she said it was "part of the tune up" that is scheduled for 13000 miles. I told her she should find out what other procedures included in the 13000 mile service. I can show her how to change oil, we can go to Advance auto to test battery, we can clean battery terminals, Spark plug inspection wouldn't be hard to do ourself. I don't recall what she said the stealer wanted to charge but I think it was something like $600-$800.
