It's been awhile since my last long trip so I've been looking forward to this one for quite a while. I leave home and head out about 160 miles to Abilene, Tx and pick up my brother in law (he rides an SV650). From there we head down to Fredricksburg, TX (about 150 miles away) on our bikes while our wives follow in my truck. Their plan is to spend our money shopping while we ride in the Hill Country. Day 1 of riding concludes with some drinks and awesome German food and beer. Day 2 roles around and I'm itching to get out and hit the twisties hard! We start out by riding Hwy 16 from Kerville, TX to Medina, TX. This is only a 20-30 mile road but it has so many twists and turns that you almost feel dizzy when you finish it! Normally we double the speed limit on curves or faster but there were 4 or 5 15mph turns that kept us in check. Blind turns up hills that come back at you on the other side.. Hard to explain but crazy to ride! Next up is Hwy 337 for 50 miles or so. The ridiculous 15mph turns are gone but tons of curves and elevation changes are in store. We also catch up to a huge pack of harley riders and our fast canyon carving comes to a halt for a few miles. There are so many curves and blind turns that it makes it hard to pass the whole group... Finally we get our chance on a stretch of road that's straight but looks like a roller coaster. I could tell they didn't want to let us pass them because they didn't bother to move over at all but they really can't stop a 14 from doing so. My bro in law made the pass but it took him a little longer, LOL. Somewhere during this part of the ride, another 08 ZX14 SE comes the opposite direction. It was nice to see another bike exactly like mine out there! Next up is Hwy 336 which kept the fun coming with tons of curves and great scenery. All in all we rode about 4 hours but it felt like 1 hour. If it wasn't for a date with the wives we would've hit up a few other roads and spent a few more hours out riding. Day 2 ends with more drinks while we listen to some local bands. Day 3 is nothing more than the ride home. Goodbye 15mph turns, cliffs, and beautiful scenery. Back to Lubbock I go...
It was a hell of a weekend of riding and I will definitely be making a trip back down there to hit up the roads I didn't get a chance to ride! Man I love this bike!
