Doz - Those lights look killer! I am sure they probably turn night into day! Looks very clean and unique on your bike, nice work! I ordered the engine ice on Sunday and it should be here on Tuesday.

David/maddox - Thank you guys very much for the pictures! I couldn't figure out what was missing but knew it had to be some kind of bracket. Does it bolt to the back of the headlight assembly? If I am looking at this diagram right (http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/2006-kawasaki-ninja-zx-14-zx1400a/o/m149099?a=3#sch582385) it appears it is part number 11054-0707 and 11054-0708 which are on backorder! Might have to do some velcro temporarily to hold it in place. It does have some metal taps on the back of the speedometer that look like they should fit in there somehow but I will have to look at it again.

I noticed a small amount of oil collecting on the left side of the exhaust manifold stud. Looks like it has the common valve cover leak so maybe when I do the coolant flush, I will take care of that as well. I do enjoy working on these things and I am really happy that it is finally getting the treatment it deserves. On a side note, I scored a complete OEM tool kit for $20 shipped on fleabay! Where is they OEM location for the tool kit on these bikes?

What's it like to ride a ZX14? It's like riding a 1000cc bike... but with 400 more cc's.

Still waiting on my license plate bracket but the last two days were in the 70's. I was able to get it out those two days before the snow came (got to love Colorado!).

The picture I posted was a screenshot of your actual photo while dissassembled. You have the bracket. At least on the left side. It screws to a molded mount point on the front fairing. It's right to the left and right of the gauge cluster.

The tool kit goes in a plastic box under the seat. The box may have been removed from your bike if the tool kit is not there.

Try the washer fix for the valve cover leak. it will slow it down. When you do a valave clearance check, you can replace the gasket and ringos.

maddox - Lmao! I was wondering where you got that picture from! After seeing the picture of the other bike, I couldn't figure out how the wheel was in the background. I must have just looked right past it when I was putting it back together. Hopefully it is still there. I am going to check tonight when I get home. Good eye!

Rook - It recently had the clearance checked right before I bought it. I might tear into this weekend if it's not too cold.

Well after talking to an old co-worker that has an '07 SE ZX14, he convinced me to remove the butterflies. When I told him I finally got a ZX14, that is the first thing he asked if I had taken the flies out. I told him I had read up on it but had not done it yet. He said it is a MUST on these bikes! So I took them out last night and took it for a spin and all I can say is WOW! This thing is a whole different animal. I always noticed the "low end lag" but once it caught, I forgot about it. Now that I have it at the twist of a grip at all RPM's, it rides like I expected a 1400 to. I also ordered a 16T front sprocket that I will put on this weekend as I think it is a geared a tad high from the factory. I cannot wait to get it installed and see how it rides.

Got the sprocket on Saturday afternoon and got to take it on a quick spin. This is is how a 1400 should ride IMO. Between all the mods and going down a tooth; it has made it a whole new animal. I would say for the inexperienced rides, this would be a lot of bike to handle. Before it was pretty tame until you wanted to open it up but now its full blown from the second you twist the grip. It definitely requires someone with plenty of riding experience to ride this thing now but it sure does bring a grin to my face.

Thanks Will! She is coming along nicely. I need to get a speedo-healer for it and I think for now, it is 'done.'

She does look good! Mine also has the 16t front sprocket. It was on when I bought it so I didn't get to feel the difference but she pulls hard for sure. My flies are still in but mines an 09 and they open sooner than the early bikes. I may pull them at some point just to see if I can feel a difference but for now I'd say it's just fine! I put a 200/55 on the rear of mine so my speedo is a little closer to correct. I need to check it with gps to figure how far off and then decide if I need a speedo healer. Anyhow your bike turned out great! This is my first sport bike and it will stay in the stable for a long time!!

Mine with a 200/55 is right on the money at all speeds up to 90 mph according to gps. I have never checked it higher than 90.

So yours is correct with the 200/55 even with your 17/45 gears Rook? Mine has 16/41 so should be fairly close to the same. Yours may be slightly lower geared.
