Man Overboard!
05/31/12 10:08 PM

Jumped ship from Momma Kaw... Could not help myself... Dis fugger is BAD!.

2008 CBR1000rr

Lee’s cycle motor
190+ hp, Lee’s dyno
Custom ground cams
Titanium retainers and springs
Superbike porting
Obviously head, and cylinders have been decked
250 miles on current build, still very fresh
Bazzaz Z-fi, AFM, and traction control, adj. map switch (recently inspected by Bazzaz)
Lee’s cycle velocity stacks
Ohlins 25mm carts
Ohlins TTX rear shock
Galfer superbike rotors
Galfer superbike lines
CFM clipons
Vortex rearsets
FP Racing Levers
Motion Pro Throttle
Driven sprockets
RK XSO chain
Galfer superbike rear rotor
BMC Filter
Hotbodies body work (new paint/vinyl)

From previous owner:

All the suspension work was done by Eric Haeselich, former Honda superbike chassis tech for Miguel Duhamel, and Jake Zemke. He also used to build motors for Kevin Erion, owner of Erion Honda racing. He also worked for Corona Honda as a chassis tech for Neil Hodgson and Jake Holden. Eric is currently working for Progressive Suspension in the research and development department. He owns his own company called Motorad based out of Redondo Beach California. Eric just refreshed the motor for me as well, due to the fact he had access to privileged information direct from Honda about what works best for that motor. The CBR1000 motor is also a spin off of the current motor they are running in MotoGP on the satellite teams, and world superbike. TenKate is currently in charge of building those motors for those satellite teams.

The first build was done by Jeremy Toye's shop in San Diego, called Lee's Cycle. Jeremy built several of these motors and is considered an expert in cbr1000 high performance builds. Quintan is Jeremy’s desk guy he will verify the work that was done the first time. That build cost $4k and the motor made 191 hp on their dyno.

Have been riding Kaws exclusively for 14 years... took something special to get me to jump.

Thanks, Kofla. Feels wierd to own a Honda that did not come with a grass catcher.

Took the CBR to the dyno yesterday. Was not disappointed... 189hp 85tq on pump gas. Need to pick up some U4 and see what it does.

Dogo,

Whenever you're prep'inn and the tank is up? Shoot the wire harness layout. The routing. What I'm saying is that you could lay a wine glass over the hoses and harness they are so well routed it's sick. I just saw a 1000 or 600? I wasn't paying attention what size. But if it looks like either one... I think I'm foaming at the mouth. Make the other big3 run an

Quintan is Jeremy’s desk guy he will verify the work that was done the first time. That build cost $4k and the motor made 191 hp on their dyno.

I meant, that a stock wire harness is well placed. I don't know what this one looks like? That means a lot of wheel swaps on that front fork leg(s) axle threads. Watch out! Same goes for the time on the rods and if they've been swapped just for safety. This is an ex-race bike, club bike, who cares. It lives in the upper range all day. Missed shifts and all that stretch. Call Jeremy's desk, ask if the rods were ever changed out for 4K? That is a lot of rebuild if no rod refresh. Where is the 4k bill with the rod swap?

Been in there twice so far... Is a thing of beauty... Though foreign to a guy that has been elbows deep into Kaws only for years.

Tank will likely be coming off tomorrow, I'll snap a pic for ya... Not sure what, or how much, I can say just yet, but I got an interesting call tonight... Bike needs to get tuned for 110 Sunoco ASAP... You going to be @ Laguna the end of July?

Haeselich did the rod bearings 250 miles ago.

The rod bearings are standard procedure. It is the hours on the rods that I question. Maybe they are stout? I know it is wise to change the rods at least for one race season, whether they need them or not. It says: Case or head [or both] if one decides to unload. I.E., cheap insurance.

Laguna? No, not this year. It was real close though.

Page 9-2. Look at the rod bolts. This says, are my rod bolts new across the board? R is standard procedure for the rod bolts. Stretched twice, three times? Were the rod bolts and nuts changed when the insert was freshened up? Ask that question?

Here's that pic, Hub:

The rods in the motor are original... The bolts? I'll ask.

No Laguna? To bad. If things change, lemme know... That phone call I mentioned... looks like I'm going to Laguna. Will be my first time... Guess I've been Holden it off, just waiting for the perfect opportunity... wink, wink.

Will do. Well, I was more impressed with the seat pan area. But look at the shot. See the extra cover for the wire harness and the tape over it? That sort of execution that is peppered all over Hondas. The, 'see watt we can do company' with the dual clutch setup. That extra tucking of the wires. It just looks cleaner than the rest.

The bolts? I'll ask.
I would assume the same R [replace] would note that too in the Honda manual. Especially winding up these at the track. Lots of high rpm hours on them. Better you get the build sheet. They should have some sort of stats [parts outlay] on the bike.

I have no clue how long these engines last? Dyno's can blow up engines. I've seen it, heard it. I'm just saying, this is normal procedure each time you freshen up inserts, inspect, etc. Can you get away with it for a street bike? Most likely yes. No high rpm buzzing like a race bike, so where is the stretch and fatigue at this pounding [you find] in a closed course? NOt on the street.

Lots of old bikes with rod caps. Most do not know you need to replace the rod bolts, but they keep running to their chopper meets. Racing is a different game. Especially [trackday] fast guys on a closed course. Especially your bike

YOu need confidence under you; The track/tires/others/now bike. Of all the variables, you want that spinner upper having the correct build to it. That is all I'm saying. YOu buy used, you cover your butt.
