Insurance and licensing costs

Hey ZX14R owners
I am curious how much you all pay out there for plates and insurance. Only because here there is a govt insurance plan with our plates renewal every year. Also as usual the cost went up again.
Sort of considering changing bikes....as a ZX14R is considered "high risk"
I really do not want to do that as the big ZX I have always wanted....as in since that first Ninja came out in 1984....

Thanks for the responses!
They started with "high risk" category a few years ago. The price has jumped up every year.
I am embarrassed to say how much that is now. After looking around at other bikes...not in that category like nakeds etc. Will hang on to the big 14R. Just sucks that I pay the same price as a young guy with no experience.

That does suck!! I think each of my bikes is about $100 for six months of liability only insurance. I suspend the coverage when I put them in storage. The registration is about $100 and that lasts 4 years I think? My registrations are way overdue now so I may need to buy new plates when I get around to updating that. Another $100 I guess.

I use Progressive for my 2015 14r and liability only (minimum required by Oklahoma). Total paid for one year - $117.00. Not sure how much full comprehensive coverage would cost. They also have my home, car and truck so there are a few discounts involved. My driving record is free from any violations in the last three years and that makes a big difference. Yearly Registration costs so far are $75.00 for original tag (which goes down each year) and $9.00 for special U.S. Navy tag.

BC, Canada.

Last year it was about $900 for 7 months, with liability only through ICBC, the only insurance company, which is run by the province.

Here, rates are based on displacement. Anything over 1000cc is in the maximum rate class.

I don't know what registration costs are, or what a tag is. I'm pretty sure those don't exist here.

Well I technically only have one thing working against me and that was my "time in the saddle". No tickets, 'no accidents' etc.. etc.. anyways, I gave up looking for full coverage insurance on my '16 14r, after the 5th insurance company quoted me the lowest number I had heard so far at a whopping $2,700 for a 6 month premium, you heard that right $450 per month, I rocked the liability insurance for a while. WELL THANKS TO A GOOD OL SUPER BIKE FORUM, I went down to my local state farm representative and walked out with full coverage, $250 deductables at $175 per month. Moral of my story is if your having issues avoiding the aggressive rape that insues shopping for insurance, do your self a favor and check with State Farm.

You are in Canada so it isn't going to help you but I also have State Farm here in the US. No issues with credit or driving/riding history and I pay $23 a month for comp with $0 deductible. I've been with them for 22 years; 10 of those with cars and bikes.

Annual registration here in Colorado is above the US national avg but I haven't had the bike for a year yet and don't recall exactly how much it was when I got the plates as that included sales tax on the bike too.

I have used state farm for years except for a short time with liberty liberty mutual...lol couldnt resist. Any way I am paying only around $40 a month for my 18 zx14r. Which is all they charged me for the busa. Liberty mutual on the other hand would not even cover the 14r. Which I thought was odd. Heck just for the heck of it I called my state farm agent and asked them about covering the h2 and they said sure. Even that was only like $50 I think it was.

Just came back to the fold with a 2012 zx14r. Liberty Mutual $160 on the 14r a year for full coverage/$500 deductible. I have a clean driving record and insure all my vehicles (3 cars, pickup truck & 4 motorcycles) and two homes with them. I found years ago that if you carry a umbrella policy it pays for itself on the other policies. I had State Farm for over 50 years on all my insurance but they cancelled my home insurance policies after 2 home claims in 5 years (water damage). Great company but I could not justify the auto and motorcycle pricing without the homes bundled with them.

I moved to WV for a short while and my insurance was 1/3. Moved back home (Whidbey Is) and the cost jumped. Then I got a bs ticket (they lowered the speed limit, on a a road I traveled seldom, first sign was obscured, by the time I saw the second sign, I also saw the trap, good thing I was driving what I thought was under the limit, only 5 over ticket. It still double my rate on my insurance. $1000 a year, full coverage. That was over 5 years ago. Now it is approximately $500 a year.
My DR650S is $40 a year.
Geico, but I have been with them for over 40 years.
Last ticket was 77, until the 2015 bs.
Only had a deer incident in 40 years, and here on the island, dear is a major problem. Geico has a rep, just to deal with deer claims.
