2000 Suzuki Katana 600

My old Kat just wont die!!! Not that I want it to, knocking on wood! ...you see, it's got about 140,000+ miles since I bought her brand new as my first bike back in 8/2000, it reached 100K miles 5 yrs later then semiretired due to some stealership induced poor maintanance, stripped cam cover bolts stripped badly, MOST of them!!! caused her to leak oil like crazy, and other stealership induced mishaps for which I paid hundreds and hundreds of hard earned dollars so they could BREAK it even more!!! Talking about frustated with a system!!!

I was forced to take it upon myself and get her back in service (I have the mechanical knowledge and skills of a Zoo trained chimpanzee).

After nearly a year of grease monkeying around, no pun intended, and having a shop rethread the stripped cam cover, placing new bolts in, etc... I was able to start the bike and it actually fired up and it runs!!!

It still leaks a little oil, WAY LESS than before, mostly before I failed to replace the ancient rubber seal that I'm sure the stealership NEVER replaced in the first place although it was part of the job or jobs!,,, it takes FOREVER to warm up the bike, Katana's are notorious for being a tad cold blooded, mine's worse! But nonetheless it works, totally functional!

Although she now lives a very sedentary life, only starting her up a couple times a month and riding for just a couple miles around the neighborhood, yesterday I took her for a 110 mile trip and did as good as always.

I think that Katanas rock!!!
