The Bonneville speedway site is not helping me find out how and when you can top out your bike. How does it work there and is there a way to document how fast you've gone?

Great info on that site, looks like your bike will never be the same though, does the salt tear it up pretty good? Inside and out?

I have not been to the salt and dont plan to with a bike because of the salt effect. Last spring I got all set up for the Moj Magnum but it f'ing rained and I bailed. They didn't run this yr but say they will be back in '18 so I'll be in the 1st event that yr hopefully... If I can't break 200 in 1.5 miles of concrete runway I never will.

Put a turbo on there and you'll do 200 and then some!

Far as salt, I don't recall where I read this but someone reported constant need to replace wiring from running at Bonneville. I think I would pass unless I was financially prepared to deal with those kinds of situations...or if I decided I had to do it before hanging up my leathers for good...as in the bike becomes a ceiling ornament in the living room.

rudy, I know I could hit 190 on my gen 1 in under 2 miles. It sure felt like it was headed right there unless it just stops pulling rather suddenly at some point when the wind is too much. Any gen2 should do 200 or darned close with basic mods. Put a nitrous kit on there if it doesn't.

Forget the salt flats, just found something called the Colorado Mile 45 mins from by house.

What kind of speed could I hit in a mile with 1/2 mile to slow down? It's also at 6000ft, runs like shit up here.

Check out the youtube vids. 200 has been done but that guy was on it hard from the start. He looks like he has some experience and I bet the bike is equipped to adjust fueling. I see a guy with 14r that looks stock and he got only 153 mph. I wouldn't be too optimistic on your first runs but if Colorado is not too expensive, it would be a great place to get some experience. I'm sure you could do it with a $300 nitrous kit only using a 20-30 shot but you'd need to tune for it.

The LSR basic regs should allow for gearing changes, front +1 and rear -1 and -2. The control system will have issues with changes to the drive and the speed response beyond that. As Rook said, tuning at 6K is really what you need to look at. Maybe just a different map in a PC V would do it and Dynojet should be able to help with that.

I believe the LSR regs get much more complicated once you deviate from stock with NOS, but you s/b able to research that.

Gearing commander .com is your friend ... as far as speed, if you don't hit 200 you have to admit to the forum you pussied out

The Colorado mile lets you go as fast as you can in one mile from a standing start. So, 140 to the 1/4 mile. If you were to average 170 mph (no idea if that is correct) between 140 and 200 you will travel .236 miles every 5 seconds.

My math leaves a great deal to be desired, but I'm calculating 15 seconds to get from 140 to 200. What am I missing?

Sounds like you have a rough idea of how it should work. You might see that speedo almost stop after 180 though. Mine was moving slow after 160. If 15 seconds isn't enough, you just need more power or more distance.

It's only every Sept and I won't have near enough time to get it ready for this year.

The cool thing is though, they clock you across the mile mark. I think all I need is a wrist strap to kill the engine and a steering damper. I'll just try it and see how fast I can go. 1/2 miles to slow down is a lot.

Good luck. That place has about 3 members as far as I can tell. Three guys with some good info but you often have to wait a while for a response...and you might only get 1 response.

Auron. If you are near Watkins Colorado , come on out..I have one pit pass with my entry and you are welcome to it. I will be there Sat and Sunday. Maybe Friday if I can get caught up at work..

As far as readying the bike, other than tires, I doubt the rest would take a couple of hours, unless you decide to do a lot of turning n stuff.

The stuff you have to do to prepare is not difficult.. The most expensive are tires. and then Metal chain guard. I have only ran at Mojave but Tech was very particular about tires being speed rated for 200 plus mph . Some things have to be safety wired like the front axle pinch bolts and rear axle nut. Oil pan nut which can be purchased already drilled for safety wire.
You need a tethered kill switch ( I might have an extra ). I can talk you thru most of the stuff if you are capable of changing your own oil and filter;).

8.0 Motorcycles – Required Safety Equipment
The following safety equipment is required to be used for all motorcycles. The motorcycle safety
tech rules are listed below and on this link. Riders are responsible for reading and complying with
all these requirements.
8.1 ENGINE KILL SWITCH: Riders must have a lanyard style kill switch that kills all power in
the event of a rider falling off. Tip over switches will NOT be a suitable replacement for a
kill switch.
8.2 TIRES: Tires must be rated for the top speed of your motorcycle.
8.3 SAFETY-WIRED ITEMS: The following items must be safety wired:
8.3.1 Front axels must be safety wired. If you are unable to safety wire you must contact
a member of tech prior to the event.
8.3.2 Oil drain plugs will be safety wired and it is encouraged to safety wire the filler cap
but is not required at this time.
8.3.3 Drive chains must have the master link clip safety wired or silicone (preferably
colored silicone).
8.4 BREATHER HOSES: Crankcase breather hoses must be run into a catch tank or in to the
air box.
8.5 CLOTHING: Leather racing suits must be worn and zipped at all times while in the hot pits
or racing lane. Kevlar T panels can only be used for expansion flexibility (arms and legs)
and not to replace other large areas of leather. Leather gloves with no holes or other
openings other than breathing pinholes. Leather riding boots suitable for motorcycle
riding/racing, must completely cover and surpass the ankle. Driving shoes will not be
permitted.
8.6. HELMET: Helmets must be certified by Snell Memorial Foundation and bearing M2010 or
M2015 approval stickers. All helmets must be in sound condition, including shell, liner,
and strap. All helmets must be approved by the tech inspector. MUST HAVE CURRENT
DATES ON HELMET. M2005 HELMETS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED. NO EXCEPTIONS.
8.6.1 Shields must be shatterproof in nature and have clear visibility.
8.6.2 Visor tear-offs are not allowed.
