21K Valve check
06/25/19 7:37 PM

Both exhaust valves were loose in Cyl 1 . All teh rest were good , Throttle bodys were 260,260,285 and 280..This thing ran so smooth up till now, I do not see how it could improve, even the tiniest bit..
Here is dyno from a couple of days ago . Brocks Alienhead 2 SS full system and 89 octane map I made a small change and today we actually came in at 205 hp but I forgot my copy.. This thing seems to enjoy running under hot weather conditons..

2013 bought new leftover July 2015

My new exhaust uncapped ran a solid 204 and with my baffles and endcap secure, and the same fuel map it drops 8 hp.. which is ok cause it runs slightly rich and that is what I wanted for teh street.. Now all I have to do at the strip is pull the baffle and encap to run..No need to change maps
Sure do like this green machine :)
Now if I can ONLY learn to ride it :)

Pretty lucky you only had two valves in need of adjustment. Most of my exhausts were tight. You may never need to adjust any of yours again. Mine were all as previously adjusted when I did the second check.

Sometimes I think it just depends how anal or how close you want to keep your adjustment for performance. I did mine at 21k and ended up doing most of the exhaust and about half of the intake. I didn't break in the bike and I was pretty ruff on her from 5k on. I also pulled the cams and re-shimmed several of the valves as I wanted them middle to tight for most lift. If I have to do them again then I will but in the end I know what they are and I bet they are better than a shop would do. Lot of work but love every minute spent in my garage with the awesome bike.

i found this to be true and could not find a shop, let alone one I trusted, to actually do the valve gap check and adjust. One shop that was "suggested" by an acquaintance as being capable of doing the work asked me if my bike was a Busa ....

In this area I dont think hardly anyone follows the maintenance schedule and does this at a shop because of the excessive cost the stealership quotes of ~$1500.

My 14 was broke in easy according to the book. Not much hard riding until 9,000 miles. They hadn't changed a bit when I checked again at about 40,000 miles.

I’m at 15,900 miles without checking mine yet. I’ll pop it open to check when it starts cooling off this year

I did mine 3 times over the course of 60,000 miles. Had nearly 20K on the clock when I got it and the owner said he had done the 15k check. I did it the first time at 30K and the second at 55K. Last time was 500 miles before the crash. Each time there were some valves out of spec, mostly tight. Don't think I found more than 2 loose valves total.

Some engines seem to bed in and not need resetting very often but you never know what's going on until you pull the cover.
