Re-doing the turbo stuff on re-install
07/24/09 3:23 PM

Ok, got the allen head bolt drilled out on the turbo exhaust flange this morning and the exhaust pipe and turbo off.

I am going to ceramic coat the turbo, and I'd guess just the exhaust side, inside and out. Never ceramic coated anything yet. What do you all recommend, as in the pieces:

1. main exhaust side, inside and out, does that mean I need to remove the propellar, etc

2. middle smaller junction between intake and exhaust side as well to get ceramic coated?

3. is it worth having the exhaust coated in or out?

I have a turbo blanket I plan on using when this thing goes back on, and some 22K heat shield for the backside of the scavange pump, maybe oil lines as well.

I appreciate all your suggestions and info on the other topic, about the exhaust bolt being frozen in place. Once the exhaust pipe was off, that cut off bolt came out with finger turning only!

Some pics:

turbo actuator flange spot welded so will not re-install the actuator. Have been on waste gate for a bit, now just getting rid of the stuff and tidying up on the re-install.

the stink exhaust flange, top right which had one of the the allen head bolts. I hope to modify the flange to be able to use regular studs-n-nuts on the reinstall.

Any other suggestion are appreciated. I hope to get the things out to ceramic coating early next week.
