GIVI Monokey V47L vs V56L Topcases (WITH PIX!!!)
10/27/15 2:52 PM

A while back on this forum I was trying to learn what would be the better purchase - the V47 or the V56 Givi Monokey Topcase? Now that I have both, I figure it might be useful to show the differences to the rest of the members here so we don't all have to waste a bunch of cash on what is not needed.

To keep the pix posted within reason, I did not take any of the handles of either case, which are quite different. The V47 is merely a recessed hand hold while the V56 has a pop out handle with a separate button to unlock the case. Anyway, see for yourself. Hope this helps!

kixxit ... That is GREAT! I'd been wondering!

From an aesthetics stand point, they look similar enough that if I didn't already have the 47 I'd get the 56 for the extra space. Not sure it's worth swapping out ... but maybe!

Oh, in fact, my buddy with a 2012 C14 did just that: We both had the V47, and he bought the 56.

Thank you!

Your bike looks GREAT by the way ...

Extrapolator,

I currently have the V47 collecting dust in the garage. I recently returned from a 3 day 600 mile trip. The V56 along with a duffel bag behind me and a tank bag work really well. Having just enough space to always have a place for my helmet or jacket (not both if I'm carrying other stuff) makes a huge difference whenever I stop for gas, take a break or take photos. Its not as nice as a set of saddlebags, but i'm working my way up to that.

Anyway, I'm glad you found the post useful!

kixxit - In case (no pun intended) you haven't seen mine in other threads, here's where my bike is at luggage-wise:

And here it is with just top case:

I have a tank bag but it has magnets on the front and with the front of the ZX14's 'tank' being plastic I'm afraid the magnets over the plastic will flop around and scratch those areas, so I haven't used the bag.

Anyway, with side cases and the V47, that was plenty of room for my trip last year to the (Blue Ridge Parkway / Tail of the Dragon)

I want those saddlebags! FYI, I have the tank ring mounted tank bag and because i like to put my arm across it and just lean on it all the time, it will still scratch the tank. it rubs in one particular spot - upper left corner of the bag if you're sitting on the bike. If I didn't lean on it so much, it wouldn't scratch at all. But of course, that's why I bought it. The SECOND reason was to put stuff in it
