Birds...Really Big Birds!!!
06/05/09 12:26 AM

Well, my son and I had a nice evening ride planned...until...

On his way home from school he encountered a TURKEY, at about 65mph.

Luckily, it hit the front fairing, which sent it over his head...showering him with crap & guts.
If it had hit his chest or head, I might not be writing this right now...don't really want to think about that.

I was very impressed with the way he handled the situation. He's 17, has been on a motorcycle since he could ride a bicycle, but only on the road for about a year. Usually, I'm always with him.
He never lost control, didn't panic. He stopped, fairings dragging on the road, checked the bike out, put his fairings back together, picked up what pieces he thought might be salvageable, stuffed them in his jacket and drove home(with his visor up).

Here's the carnage:

Anybody have any experience with the bodywork on Ebay from Hong Kong?

^^^^ What he said! ^^^^

Some of the guys on the zx10 forum I'm on have used those ebay plastics. They require a little extra work to get a good fit.

I think someone is saying it's time for him to get a Kawasaki. I think Kruz or Painter would say it's God. But sence I don't believe, I'll let you deside who.

God's not saying anything here Bud, I would just like to think He steered that turkey into the fairing. About a foot higher and it coulda been really ugly.Draw your own conclusions.

That looks bad. Glad the bird hit only the fairing and your son made it OK!

I've installed a set of thoes fairings on my ZX9 and "you get what you paid for" really sums them up well... They are a great price and look fairly good, I found they were a pain in the rear to install (all holes will need to be redrilled, take your time installing as they won't fit as well as the OEMs) and the only problem I had is the clear coat started to peel on the tail within a year.

You wish you could ride like a turnkey, you, you squids! Guy had a bunch of junk on the hood of a car with a baby crib and all. I'm about that age on the 'ol, X-6. That piece of wood comes off the car, I had no place to go. It hit the forks and splintered apart.

Cars/trucks/lawnmower/leaf blowers day of the month is moving at the end of the month; with all their worldly goods ready to talk your head off... I do not follow behind anyone towing or with roof gear on top is to be collecting fairing or body off the ground [beef].

Dogo... Isn't hunting out of season illegal? Kid has some street savvy now! WOT caliber is that fairing? Did the turkey have a CHANCE?

After I hit a deer my friend asked if I would take him turkey hunting when the season came - I laughted; but now that I've seen the mess it will make... YUCK! No way!!! :)

Well...so far he's gotten more turkey with his bike than his 12 gauge.

Can you imagine this happening to someone that wears 1 of these

Honestly, I think he was doing more than 65mph. Good on him for reacting properly.
