Cruise control pickup - what do you think..
06/05/09 10:01 AM

The VSS (engine speed) lead and the Rostra VSS are not working together on this bike, so I bought a magnetic coil/magnet pickup setup for the speed lock on. The magnets are very small and light, about 1/2" x 1/4".

I was thinking of epoxying them to washers - with a very short arm extension to be able to center them 180 degrees apart ( it's a 5 bolt rotor pattern- :( ). I need 2 total, then mounting them on the inner bolts on the brake rotor, which is just a few inches from the center of the wheel.

Question is do you think that location and amount of weight will throw off the balance of the wheel or?

Thanks.

Technically it will affect the balance of the wheel, but since it is so close to the center of the wheel you'll be fine (the weight affects the balance exponentially the further from the center of the axis of rotation)

I high-temp. siliconed a rare-earth magnet to one of the bolts for my digital Sigma Speedo - I didn't even remove the bolt like you have. It's been there for close to 3 years with zero problems - no imbalance to be felt and didn't fly off at 160mph...

Yeah, really no need for brackets, imo. I high-temp. siliconed the magnet pickup to the fork leg, obviously.

What exactly are you doing with this project???
