mirror loose
07/25/09 8:19 AM

whats up guys,
Ive got a problem with my mirror on the left side. I have to pull em back quite often
to get into narrow spots at work, thru and between trucks.doorways getting it to a safe
area. I work in a paint and body shop,we do tractor trailer repairs and paint. one guy ran over a
truck bed off the cab with a crane drivin in the shop once.I want my bike way far from anything to
do with him!!!

anyhow this mirror doesnt stay snug...it got really loose to where it wouldnt stay put-once i broke
75mph.Ive tighten it with an allen after removing the rubber seal and got everything back to the norm. or so I thought but it doesnt want to hold after a period of time.anybody know how or what to do
to solve my Issue????

the other mirrors no problems, its like brand new every time....

thats about the only way to get them tight again is to remove that rubber sticker and tighten the screw...maybe the screw is constantly backing out, u try some locktit on it? the really light duty loctite, not the red one

yea, well blue is meant to come off easily, and if you move that bolt around enough it will break that seal, ie: pulling the mirror in and out all the time, blue when it dries is kinda like candle wax, i use a tiny drop of it on the wellnut fasteners for a while now, and haven't spun one yet or had a hard time getting it off.

Tks. Mirror got fixed. With a tiny screwdriver I have removed, undamaged, the mirror arm joint rubber cover. Then with the bike kit hex allen key 6mm I have tightened the screw, aligning the dot and the dash marks. A small locktite drop and voilĂ , the arm became tightened and the cover got stuck into place like new. Have fun.

Never tried it but I'd go extra tiny on the drop for a wellnut. Yes dammit I have to test the wellnut screws often after I first put fairings back on. I lost that one that goes under the point of the nose.

A good way to fix a loose mirror is to take them off and put a mirror caps on. I haven't had a loose mirror since.

6mm Allan Key:
Having been riding with a loose right mirror for months, I have partially peeled back the rubber seal at the top of the pivot point & used a 6mm Allan Key to tighten the mirror
If it gets loose again I'll add some lock tight.
