Needed a tool to help remove my steering neck bearing races. Figured out what tool I wanted to try (OTC 4796), and based on price I found tooldiscounter com to appear to be a good deal. But now I'm not so sure.

Shipping was fairly high, at $10 for a $26 small tool. I figured what the heck, it's what I want. I was also impressed by the tool selection which seems huge. Also the fact they "carry" motorcycle specific tools, is not something you see in every store.

I get the confirmation email. Great! Then I get another email. Some what unoticably, it looks like a shipment update but says "order will ship in 2-3 weeks". Oh? Now this sucks. I thought they would be shipping it out same day or next day. I ordered it the 11/18/21, and as of this writing 12/1/21, I have not received notification of it shipping.

BUT WAIT..THERE'S MORE!

I can't say this for certain. I recently started receiving additional spam emails and phone calls, and I suspect it's from dealing with ToolDiscounter. That's the only company recently, which I have done something "new" with my personal information. Again, I can't say for 100% this is why I have seen increased spam email and calls, but it seems very likely this company does not respect it's ...if you can call us that...customers.

If you've had experience with this company, good or bad, or IMO take a chance on them what was your experience? I do not plan to give them any further business at this point.

I had tremendous amounts of email spam years ago. I was tossing several out every day. It finally stopped when I switched to gmail.

It's not so much the spam email. I can tell it's a new source by the form of the emails and the fonts they're using.

But it's not JUST the spam, in fact, really least of all the spam email. It's more that they didn't disclose at the time of sale it would be 2-3 weeks before the product even shipped. This may explain their rather large selection. My guess is... they have some funky business model and don't really carry any inventory, which is why the can advertise low prices (then sock it to you with shipping). There's no way they're paying any where near $10 to ship that part to me.... no way.

The phone calls were just odd. Again, just seems to be a timing thing. So it's all this together, MOSTLY THE DELAYED SHIPPING AND COST OF SHIPPING which I am disappointed with. The spam calls and email are just sort of flies on the turds.

Three day standard shipping is a thing of the past. Slow shipping might be what we can expect now with the pandemic. Another friend ordered something off Ebay and it's been 12 days since the order was received. It hasn't shipped yet. I would think after some point you could cancel the order and demand your money back.

Well hey order something from them next time you need a tool and we'll see what you experience.

Why didn't I just cancel the order?
That's a good question. Here's the answer. I didn't look at the "update" email very carefully when I first got it. I glanced at it but didn't really read it. It wasn't until a few days ago after I thought the package should have been here, that I reviewed the email reading it more carefully noticing the 2-3 week shipment note. The order was placed the 11/18.

As of this moment, the order has still not shipped, which is 2 weeks.

Overall order expeiences lately
I've been ordering quite a few things and have not experienced significant delays. Probolts order, placed 11/26, shipped 11/30. My Traxxion order was completed and shipped 4 days prior to the 10 day general estimate. 2 separate recent orders from PartsWarehouse (Babbit's) both shipped within a day or 2. A couple other orders, including an Ebay order for the exhaust bracket I posted about in my maintenance thread shipped quickly. So even with some sites warning there could be covid delays, they shipped the orders out rather regularly. Tooldiscounter is NOT DISPLAYING any sort of "due to current blah blah" banner, warning etc, yet clearly their shipment is delayed.

Again, I'm just posting my experience. Order from them and let me know what your experience is. I'd at least like to have my product to go along with the spam calls...

Just an update, 3 weeks surpassed as of yesterday and no notification that the tool has shipped. Emailed tooldiscounter middle of the day today and haven't received any response.

If some kawasaki parts are ordered at this time,there IS a factory backlog going on.My Rad cover(not a radiator screen aftemarket part) from Babbits got here two days ago,after less than a week.The other part...nationwide shortage.So waiting for that.Just depends what you're ordering.

Email or call em and ask what's the eta.It could be on it's way right now.I've done that.Takes about 5 minutes in a chat on the site.

I don't find three weeks to be an unusually long shipping time. What would concern me at this point was that they weren't replying to my my attempts to contact them. If you think they're trying to evade you and keep your money, start a dispute through Pay Pal or your credit card or both. That should get the dispute settled in a hurry. The very first thing I ever ordered online back in 2009 didn't arrive for two months and the company wouldn't reply. I called my credit card and Pay Pal and they both got involved. I chose to cancel the order and they got my money back.

Grn, the product was listed in stock and still is right now. But I'm sure you checked that before posting. I'm also 100% certain you went to the site yourself and looked for any sort of "due to current blah blah orders may be delayed", because again, as of today (and also when I placed my order) there was no site wide warning. The original order confirmation email includes no mention of any delayed shipping.

Like I said, this is my experience, and if you think "it's just me" then please do some ordering from them and see how your experience goes.

I hope that if you do, you get your order quickly and accurately and in the time frame you expect... and don't start getting a bunch of spam calls and emails. Really, I hope that for you, it's just my experience.

Had this happen with a revzilla order.Few months ago.They sent an email like a day after I ordered and said 'it's on backorder'.I cancelled the order right then by using their chat window.Went again to the site...'in stock' is what it said.

Summit shipped it out today and it's going to be here tomorrow.

But I don't need it now...LOL figured out a way to get the bearing races out without it (updated my maintenance post). Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks for the tire compliment. Those Metz are a little more difficult than one or two other sets I've painted up the lettering, since the lettering seems smaller and shallower. My probolt and tires gonna bling her up pretty nice!

Summit, I've ordered from them over the years. Indeed, the tool was on my doorstep when I got home from work and that was standard UPS ground shipping (I do live fairly close to them though). Still, can't say enough to have ordered on a Saturday and the part shipped out Monday by noon.

Here's a one that's a real bummer.
I went to brock's site to see about a penta carbon full exhaust system.Found the right one.Looked on 'availablity'.
0 available.I ordered antway just to pay ahead for it.
Got an email next day saying 'your order has shipped'.lol.
AND along with that,a refund for 300 something dollars for the flash.They didn't even have my ECU at that time(sent that two days later).The exhaust arrived like 4 days later.The ecu wasn't far behind.Whoda thunk,eh?
