Lightest Gas Cap?
06/07/16 2:22 PM

Has anyone compared the gas caps available out there for weight and functionality? I'd like to get a carbon framed gas cap, as I'd think that would be the lightest possible, but I'm not sure what is necessary vent wise, and which caps are waterproof?
I never intend to leave the bike in the rain, but weather can do funny things sometimes..

Don't see a pic with that link but are you sure that is the whole gas cap assembly or is it just the cover you remove to put gas in the tank? That price is half of what the better known aluminum gas caps cost and CF is usually a lot more than aluminum.

The vent will be removed with the OEM cover. My LighTech I have on the 14 has a tiny hole under the ring that will allow vapor release or air to enter if there is a dramatic change in internal pressure. Other brands may have a small rubber hose that attaches to the gas cap filler neck and then inserts in the hole below he ring to vents to the overflow line just like OEM.

LighTech quarter turn is 7.25 oz with aluminum screws. OEM with steel screws is 14 oz.

Lightest I have weighed is the Evotech quater turn I have on my busa. 6.35 oz with 5 aluminum screws.

I picked up a $40 cap off Aliexpress.com and it is about the same weight as OEM. Nicely crafted, color's good and cheap as hell but not a weight loss. It will work fine while I have my Lightech off for modding.

Never had a problem with moisture getting into the tank. I wash with water several times a year and occassionally get stuck in the rain. Never a problem that I ever noticed.

For some reason they don't have a pic for it. Seems to be the only carbon cap that I've seen though. It should be about the same as their quick release cap.

Get a detailed description before buying. Any of these would be quick release 1/4~1/3 turn. Only three aftermarket caps on the market that require some sort of key and that is usually part of the reason people want to replace these things.

They said that the carbon fiber cap has been out of production for two years, but the company keeps telling them that they will make more some year..
Oh well.
