Hi everyone, someone destroyed my Lock Set Ignition Key Switch trying to steal my zx14, they weren't smart enough to notice the huge disk lock before the damage was done. However, the ignition is toast and needs to be changed out. What is the chances this is a DIY job or should i just let the shop do it?

I would not let the shop do anything unless you are certain itis an excellent shop. Not just good. EXCELLENT. If they are a hard up dealership/repair shop, chances are they are they will screw up something.

You may have an issue with Kawi giving you, a DIYer a new key for new ignition. I'm sure that is a common request of bike thieves who usually lack the original key.

You CAN change this deal out yourself...but you'll have to go through the dealer to get a new switch...if it's broken...AND..there is a part of switching/installing that you may find very difficult to do...installing the self locking screws and such.THAT could be a problem.IDK.I never replaced my ignition switch on my 07...but I DID remove it from the factory triple tree,and reinstalled onto an aftermarket riser triple tree.Putting it back on the factory one was a lot easier than removing it the first time...and I didn't use the self locking screws with mine...I used the riser screws(for their triple tree) to reinstall on my 07.It worked fine.

I think if you are mechanically inclined, have the proper tools, you can DIY. Not sure how much the dealership wants for a new ignition switch, but Cheap Cycle Parts wants $133.00 for a 2010 ZX14 ignition switch and two set of keys.

Guess ya can get new switches on ebay....better deal I reckon.

Seems no one really answered the question so I searched some more forums and found a exclamation.

I used a small enough bit to try and center in the torx screw after trying a big bit that wouldn't center in the screw. Didn't take long to do.

There will be no damage to the top clamp.

Hey, Im going to have to go through this when I change my triple tree clamp this weekend or next. Wanted to know when you removed the upper triple clamp, did you take the weight off the front wheel, or was the lower clamp tight enough so you dont have to? Also what screws did you use when you went to replace the ignition lock?
