Need tires for touring
02/01/15 11:36 AM

Taking a big trip to California from Colorado this summer. I need something that will last 4K of constant slabbing and stay nice and round for when I'm there. 4K might not sound like much, but when you're hauling through Nevada in the summer for 14 hours straight the rubber just melts right off. Can't go wrong with PR2's but I'm sure I'll spring for the new PR4's if Michelin is the way to go.

Only think holding me back is my love for Dunlops but the 205 and 220's I've used just don't last. Never tried the Roadsmart 2 but would still really like to. Don't want to gamble on such a big trip I only get to take every couple of years.

Hey Auron, let me know if you're going to be coming through the SF Bay Area.

I'm having success with Shinko's 016 Verge 2X. Had the front on for some nice hot runs at the end of summer and it stuck very well. The rear at that time was just the single compound and it performed great as well. I have since changed the rear to the dual compound and it shows little wear now after a few thousand klm's.

Auron I would caution you against RoadSmarts. They're stock on 650Rs, a lot of riders with 650Rs complain about them being too hard and the 650R over powering them. Could be 50% of 650R riders are numbskulls, or it could be that tire is a little too timid for a 14.

Roadsmart 1's are very good...the 2's...not as good. They're phasing out the 1's...IDK why.I liked em.Worked well on the 14.Just didn't have the mileage characteristics that I wanted.Course...any tire will fry if you run fast everywhere.

Grn good point. I should've said RoadSmart 2s. Hehe I don't get to say this often, RoadSmart 1s were before my time (well more between than before...but same difference)!

I've been running Pirelli Angel GTs. Great grip, decent mileage, OK wet-weather performance.

I had Roadsmart 2s on my ZRX, and they seemed fine and lasted twice as long as the Qualifiers, but the front did wear very weirdly. Honestly I am getting just as good mileage with my vanilla Pilot Powers and they are wearing in a less funky way. I don't ride super aggressively.

Danno said"I've been running Pirelli Angel GTs.
