Galfer Brake Lines
05/22/10 7:49 AM

Hub just wondering if you have ever tried to bend the banjo fittings. As you can see from the photo, both have the same angle. I was wondering if I place the top one in a vice with a small amount of pressure just enough so the top one clears. If I do this ,,,,, will it break? With them spread out like the pic shown they hit the plastic when turning right. Any thoughts ?

Okay...ya,I thought that's where it was rubbing.Mine did that as well.I loosened the brake perch clamps, slid my lever and all OUTBOARD about a 1/4 or so of an inch(you MAY need to also slide your throttle grip/tube out a smidgen)I know it sounds "opposite" of what you're trying to accomplish, but you gotta get that brake banjo angling IN against the forks MORE.THEN,I realigned the banjos so the head/shank part was up against the fork tube as much as I could get it there...touching...yes.That allowed the lines to clear the cover edge JUST ENOUGH.Might take a few tries to get the brake perch/lever deal at the right spot, but it WILL work without any consequence to the lever angle feeling.Maybe TRY changing the position of the LOWER banjo.Put that one on the "outside" instead of where it's sitting now.Ziptie the two together down lower, might bring the lines in closer together?and away from the cover edge? NOW I see what ya got....didn't really notice at first(well,I did,but it wasn't registering at first).TWO banjos on there(I knew that).Well Rome...I've got my single on there, and what I can say is,where it connects to the master there, underneath,I've still got about at least a third of an inch that I can rotate the banjo to get the line to ride up against the fork(it's NOT at this time). So you SHOULD have room to angle those lines by bringing out the perch and Throttle tube slightly(and the switch housing). And that thick ziptie holds it against the tube, not letting it rub on the cover.Did you change your brake fluid BLOCK down at the lower triple clamp? That CAN be moved to either side a bit you know? But you'll need to do a mild bracket mod for it.OR,maybe add some spacers to the inside of the block, bring it forward some.Change the position of the lower brake line at the block maybe?

Since that whole "unit" is moving as one piece...the brake block, lines, perch, housings and cables(and triple tree)....it won't hurt anything to manipulate that brake line someway to get it to clear the cover.Do your banjos go into the fluid block at the lower fork tree clamp as well?If so,should be no problem to get em attached and clear of the cover. Then just ziptie er on there and call it good. But they don't,do they. They go straight down to the caliper, yes? You'll just have to snake em down there against the fork tubes and fasten em,leaving enough play for the wheel to compress and rebound so you're not snapping them loose at the master.

Got it but the problem just changed locations. It's the best combo but far from perfect. The 6th try is a charm.
