Speedo Erratic
04/03/10 6:48 PM

I noticed on my way home tonight that the speedometer needle was jumping around. It was jumping + and - 20 mph. I was keeping with traffic, so I guess that I was going around 55. After a full stop at an intersection, the needle came to rest and when I resumed, problem was gone. Anyone else have an issue like this happen? I do have a speedo-healer installed. Maybe something going on there. Thanks in advance!

Healtech Speedohealer?I've got one.Never been erratic yet-might just reset it again to the current setup you've got-may be just a glitch in it's software.Sounds like it stopped working momentarily.V4 here as well JDC.

I had the same thing happen. Ended up being the Speedohealer V4. It was replaced and I have not put back on.

Thanks guys. I have the V4 also. I'll try to reset it and see if it makes a difference.

hate it when they don't post the answer to the mystery.

5'll get you 10 it was the SHv4. Mine went bonkers on me last summer. No need to replace, I just make sure I don't get it wet. The thing started bouncing around and the fuel was cutting like I was hitting the speed limiter! Finally the speedo just went to 0 and stayed there. The bike ran normal w/out the speedo operating. Shut her off for a few hours. Came back and she started up, speedo worked fine.

Like I said, keep those inline connectors at the speed sensor lead dry. i wrapped mine with electrical tape. Still got a little stutter one time after a wash but not severe. At least I know what it is. Plan to install the Boneville this winter. The SH goes on the busa.

I got tired of my Healer not working.Beat it with a hammer.Replaced it with a SpeedRD device. It's waterproof and works great.

My Speedo inexplicably went berzerk for a minute then went to 0 and stayed until I shut the ignition off and turned it back on a few hours later.

I thought it was the speedo healer connectors getting damp. Could a loose countershaft sprocket nut cause the speedo to malfunction in this way on the Gen1?
